A&W Canada — Restaurant in Nanaimo

I had to change my review from a 5 star to a 1 star. I came here last night May 25th 2023 around 9:40pm. I ordered a Lettuce wrap double teen and some fries. The A&W did not have there regular 5oz patties or smaller buddy patties made. I was offered one of the uncle sirloin patties instead, after being told it would be about 20 minutes to cook fresh so I reluctantly said yes. Now keep in mind my first job was at this A&W I have been coming here for 18 years since I was 7. So I ate came home watched a show and got ready for bed. I was woken up around 3am with the worst stomach pains and violent diarrhea, it was coming out of both ends I was puking and vomiting like now tomorrow. I knew right away I had been food poisoned by there meat. I would not reccomend any going there until they get there food holding times correct. I got off lucky you can really kill someone if you do not know how to handle food like they clearly do not at this...

Last Friday night (oct 21) about 5:30, my son and I went through the drive through to order dinner. There was a sign on the speaker indicating due to staffing there maybe a wait. I was completely fine with this.

I observed a staff person with headset on walking thought the restaurant and moments later he took our order. We drove to the pick up window and I saw the same staff member service a customer at the counter. He then turned around, took our payment and said he'd be right back. A couple minutes later, he was loading food into our bag and off we went.

I think the whole process took just over 5 minutes. I said to my son, I think he was the only person working in there other than the cook.

Completely impressed. There were people in the restaurant and in the drive through. The staff person was calm and polite. Kudos to him for holding down the fort and keeping his cool during a busy time😊 I'm so sorry, I didn't...

Went through the drive thru 7 minutes before they closed (10:53 pm) and saw a man inside with a headset on. All I was going to order was a drink. He ignored me, and I pulled around 3 times but couldn't get his attention. I watched him take his headset off the 2nd time. I sat at the window for 5 minutes while they had a conversation clearly in my view and they both made eye contact with me. The 3rd time I pulled around they signaled for me to leave and said they're closed. It was still 10:57 and they didn't close until 11. I work in food service too and I understand last-minute orders suck. But if you're open until 11 then you take orders until 11. I have got a drink at the same time before without any issues. I tried to call the store and heard it ringing through the window. After I left I tried to call again, they answered the call and played a hugh pitched squealing sound though...
