The most recent 4 out of 5 times I've called to order take out from this place recently (since covid happened) I ended up having to wait more than twice the amount of time that they told me. I'm 100% sympathetic to the fact that things happen and orders can get delayed but based from the consistency of the occurance and the countless reviews here saying pretty much the same thing, this is just unacceptable. They are at over capacity, they're aware of it but they're also too greedy to let you know about it
Today i went to pick up an order which they told me would take 30 mins. Already knowing what's going to happen, I showed up after 45 mins instead, only for one the employees to tell me that the order isnt ready because I only called a few minutes ago... I then corrected her and said no I called 45 mins ago and she went in to check, then came back to tell me the order will be ready in a few minutes. Of course now I know based on experience that this is obviously a lie so I called her out on it and asked for real how long I'd have to wait and she said "ok ok for real it's actually 10-15 minutes". At this time another gentlemen customer also told the same employee that he's been waiting for 20 minutes outside the door after being told his order would only take "a moment".
Not that I needed this to confirm my suspicion, but now I know for a fact that they're just blatantly giving fake time estimates for your orders. That's why if you go around dinner time there's generally a line out the door. Those poor people all came on time but will still be told to wait "a few more minutes" while their order isnt even being prepared yet and they wait another who knows how long. Basically they're lied to twice in a single visit. When winter comes, this "just a few more minutes" lie will mean that people will be standing out in the cold rather than in their vehicles.
I called out the girl again and asked why this keeps happening and she literally started laughing and blamed it on her coworker who's "in charge of the scheduling".
If anyone's wondering why I keep coming back if this keeps happening, the simple reason is because it's close to where I live and to be fair the food is decent. But i'm drawing the line now, and the next time this happens, I'm taking off without notice and I encourage everyone to do the same.
Sushi Jun is only about a 5 minutes drive from this place. They're a MUCH smaller restaurant, only capable of sitting maybe 6-8 people at max if dine ins are allowed and they're also always drowning in take out orders these days They do however give accurate time estimates every single time, even if the wait is going to be over an hour long. 100% respect to those guys.
To the owner: Dont give me your generic "sorry for the wait, it was rush hour" reply that you seem to give everyone. You know exactly what you're doing and it's trashy. If it weren't for my family members who keeps ordering from you, I'd never set foot there again. I have never wished for a business to...
Read moreI wish I didn't have to give this place 3 stars, but I'd be lying to fellow sushi lovers if I gave it a 4 or a 5. I love Sushi and Sashimi, and if you're reading this, you probably do too!
I was dying to try this place but kept seeing their renovation sign and their out of service number, until one day, they picked up and told me they were re-opening in a week! I was excited because being in Newmarket, my only real sushi AYCE was Taka Sushi (Outside Upper Canada Mall's west entrances); I wanted to see what this place had to offer.
Sadly, the restaurant looks amazing after the renovations, and I feel bad for the owner that it went through fire damage and insurance only paid a portion (we had a great conversation when I visited), but the truth of the matter is that the menu is VERY limited. I have actually never seen such a limited AYCE sushi menu. Also, if you go to Taka Sushi, it's like the same menu except Taka has 50% more options to choose from. The only reason I go to Taka is out of convenience. The best sushi place is Yangs Sushi on Highway 7, between Warden and Kennedy in Markham.
This restaurant looks pretty fancy (almost like a lounge or nighclub with tables), but I honestly rate it a 2 out of 5 stars...gave it an extra star because I feel bad for the owners. I won't be returning due to limited menu choices (that Taka Sushi also has), and the price was more than Taka by quite a bit.
If you don't want to travel outside Newmarket but really crave sushi, go to Taka as they give you 10% off for cash payments and also give you stamp cards so your 10th (or is it 11th?) meal is free. In the 8 years we've lived here, we've spent over $1500 a year at Taka. We also frequent Cynthia's Paradise in Aurora, which is probably the 2nd best place I've eaten besides...
Read moreWe were in Newmarket a couple of days ago and decided to go for all you can eat sushi at Golden Maki. I haven't been there in about 5 years. Well, it won't be that long again. Their food is amazing. Good ingredient to rice ratio. Nothing overpowers anything else. You can taste each fresh ingredient. What really stood out for me and I ordered it every time we submitted an order was the Volcano Spicy Roll in the Special Rolls section. It's rice paper with salmon. avocado, crabmeat and crispy topped with the spicy sauce. It sticks to the plate and to each other but the battle to get it to your plate in one piece is worth it. The spicy sauce is not that spicy so if you like just a little bit it's perfect but if you like a bit spicier then go for the wasabi. it is tasty and has the kick you might be looking for. I was so excited to eat everything that I completely forgot to take pictures of the food we ordered. The service was quick, friendly and helpful. There was a steady flow of customers for both dine in and take out. The majority of dine in customers were enjoying the all you can eat lunch menu. They have a new iPad ordering system which is very easy to use once you get the hang of it. There is no waiting for someoone to pick up your order, it goes straight from the iPad to the kitchen. Besides being very efficient it was nice to be able to see what you ordered previously so it was easy to reorder. Unfortunately, we were there for lunch and sashimi is only available for dinner. We will definitely return for the dinner menu. I absolutely recommend this place in the Leslie and Davis area...
