The server was really sweet and the food came out super fast! I got the smash burger and added cheese and bacon, it was delicious. Really filling and it hit the spot. My Caeser was good too. Thanks guys!
(The service was so fast we were in and out within like 20 minutes!!!!!!!)
Edit: it's been a week and I can't stop thinking about this burger
Edit #2: the inital review was posted summer of 2023, I returned again summer of 2024 to enjoy the smash burger once again and was thrilled and delighted to find it is just as life changing as it was the first time.
Edit #3: June 2025 I'm back in North Bay and that means my long awaited yearly dining experience at the Crown and Beaver is here! I'm am happy but not surprised to say that once again, they have exceeded my expectations and left me absolutely delighted. I had the good fortune to get to C&B last night for dinner and decided to get something new. Their smash burger is absolute perfection but my curiosity got the better of me. I ordered their soup of the day (potato bacon) and for the main, mac and cheese add bacon. Boy let me tell you. The potato bacon soup was a magical experience. Topped with scallions and scallion oil, with some seasonings I couldn't confidently identify, the blended soup was rich, smokey, homey, cozy, and healing. It set something right inside my soul. Not your average potato bacon soup. 12/10. The mac and cheese was stunning as well. It was very hot out of the oven, the cheese nicely crisped on top. The sauce was a cheesy/buffalo type sauce which was a really refreshing change of pace from the usual. There was a crisp and light coleslaw topped with onion, roasted garlic, and roasted corn which was delicious and a nice reprieve from the hot mac and cheese. This dish is dangerous because it was very hot but I simply couldn't stop eating it because it was so delicious. I didn't burn my tongue but it's a little tender. 8.5/10. For dessert I got the funnel cake fries dusted with icing sugar which came with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream drizzled with honey. Absolutely no notes, the fries were perfectly cooked, great flavour, and the ice cream and honey was the perfect pairing. 10/10. And of course I must mention our server Mia was an absolute sweetheart 11/10 service. See you guys...
Read moreI have normally been quite impressed with the Crown, however, in a recent visit with a two of us the food took almost an hour and a half to come to our table. 3 other tables were served before us, though were seated after we arrived. We were told there was only 1 chef and the communication that a particular food was not available did not get communicated to our waitress. When the food finally arrived the Mac burger was burnt, the buns were cold, and the chicken burger was poorly made, slapped together with buffalo dressing and cheese sauce slobbered in the middle of the burger. The poutine was budget made with tex mexe and this was not noted in the menu. The only thing done right were the dill fries. Needless to say, the fact that we had to ask for something to be done for our bill, means we will likely not be returning in the near future, the waitress was very understanding about our experience and did take a percentage off when we asked without hesitation so there is a saving grace from our visit.
Another mention, I tried going here previously but the place was undergoing renovations, so tonight we expected a nice touch up of the place, now the atmosphere was pleasent I couldnt help but notice the haphazardly done installment of the glass table top, in order to make it fit they cut out a slit in the beautiful wall leaving scratches around the area and never bothered to touch up or paint the wall. Though the atmosphere was meant to look nice these details made the place feel cheap. We won't dive into the cameras observing each table individually, making it feel as though we were in a tv show, overall it was not a good experience. I do hope others continue to have good experiences as fine dining experiences are fading...
Read moreFirst time being there and we really enjoyed it. It has a casual atmosphere with a bar but without a bar feel. I made reservations and they had a little chalk board with my name on it which looked so neat. Wait staff was very friendly and quick with our drinks, refills and food. Our waitress gave us suggestions of what we might want to have. My wife had lobster Mac n cheese which was great. I had the pickled brined fried chicken. It was very tender boneless thighs with great flavor. The breading was very crunchy and had a light sauce that had been drizzled over the chicken. No flavor over powered the others flavors on the chicken. It came with a fresh Cole slaw with red onions and corn. It had a light vinegar based sauce on the slaw. For dessert we had Captain Morgan creme brulee cheese cake which was awesome. We will return for sure. We really like the menu was full of unquie items that you will only find there. Not a huge menu but items on there were well thought out. My wife and couldn't...
