The restaurant was highly recommended by two separate businesses that my wife had shopped at that day (June 29th), so we were expecting a pretty great experience - Wrong! First, no wheelchair access that we could see so you need to walk down stairs (outside) at the side of the building or down a flight of stairs in the building itself. Upon entering into the waiting area, we waited somewhere between 5 to 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged our presence. The table at the booth we sat at was sticky. We wanted to ordered zucchini as a app only to be told there wasn't any more - this was on a Thursday at about 5 pm. Then we said we would try the "fried ravioli" only to be told they don't serve that item anymore. My thought - well (1) why is it still on your menu and (2) maybe somebody should have told us about the zucchini and ravioli when they gave us our menu. I ordered the Jambalaya (with shrimp, chicken & sausage) & house salad. The house salad was basically a bowl of greens with 2 small slices of tomato & 2 small slices of cucumber. Not very impressive although the dill salad dressing was very good. Then the Jambalaya came and it was just as bad! Two shrimp, 4 or 5 "small" slices of sausage and the chicken had a weird taste and consistency. It took me a few minutes to place the taste of the chicken but I quickly realized the chicken had been boiled and then sliced. The portions of chicken were not bad but it was very bland with absolutely no seasoning. My Jambalaya mainly consisted of what we guessed were whole sliced green & yellow peppers along with a bunch of tomato sauce. Given this "dish" cost $28, a customer should expect something better than boiled bland chicken and a few shrimp & sausage. My wife had the Strawberry Walnut salad which she thoroughly enjoyed and a potato and leek soup which also tasted funny - like one of the ingredients in the soup was burnt. Our server was extremely slow and not that friendly. She never even came back to see how we were enjoying (or not enjoying) our meals after she served them. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this establishment to anyone - based on the food...
Read moreI was really intrigued walking into this place with 4.4 stars after I was informed they are fully reserved every weekendbecause they are so popular! I thought it was my lucky day when they squeezed us in and found a table for us. The view is beautiful on the patio and it's a relaxing atmosphere . To my surprise and excitement, this was a creole restaurant, one of my favorites! I was enthusiastic about so many of thier menu items and decided on the blackened salmon, rice and beans with a side salad. My partner ordered the jambalaya. The food I received was very strange and I noticed that it looked nothing like it should . My blackened fish was rock hard , pink with no spices, salt or pepper. The "creole" sauce tasted like pan seared cream. Even worse, as I forced myself to eat the near inedible, bland fish, I discovered a white hair. To my dismay I retrieved MANY hairs in a variety of hair colours. My husband's jambalaya was a sludge of tomato paste, with overcooked chicken also having zero seasonings. I would say the ratio of sauce to rice was 2:1. A giant plate of canned tomato sauce and rice. The service was extremely slow. We got our salads and waited for easily 45 minutes for the rest and the place was empty when we arrived . If you want to sit on the patio and enjoy a drink, by all means it's a cute little place . I would not recommend this place for anything, especially since the hygiene was in question. I'm counting down the hours hoping I don't have food poisoning! This place is absolutely terrible and I'm shocked that anyone would rate this restaurant with 5 stars, they must have paid for these...
Read moreWe had a group of 23 have a lunch at Salamanders and I have to say this was one of the absolute best choices I've ever made ever! I live in Australia so navigating finding a space to host my mom's memorial was tricky. Other places looked either loud, wouldn't answer my questions, made me feel like I was annoying them for asking basic questions or had pricey set menus. We had mostly older attendees plus a couple kids so everyone needed to be able to choose what they wanted (but they can do a set menu or limited options for your guests if you want - literally whatever works for you, they will do!) Leeanne (unsure if I spelled that right) was SUCH a delight. She answered all my questions, and so quickly! Through fb messenger she sent me photos, offered helpful suggestions, etc. She set the space up perfectly - the function space can accomodate 40+ but she made it feel perfect for 23, making space to stand and chat, and space to sit and a kids colouring nook! Gorgeous view of the river, and in warmer months you can use the patio for over flow. Restrooms in the space but off to the side. A bar in the space too but they also did Table service. The food was Delicious and beautifully presented. My almost 2yr old needed to run a bit and the staff were so calm as I handled her exuberant moments. The ease and kindness from Leeann was absolutely fantastic!. If I ever need a space for a group of any size in this area we will Always choose Salamanders. Thank...
