Decided to stop in based on a Google search of restaurants in Listowel. I liked what I saw on the menu so my friend and I tried it out. The interior is charming. Plenty of space with high bar style or low chairs. Even the washrooms are pleasantly decorated. I had the Irish potato soup, vegetable spring rolls and cordon bleu Swiss schnitzel. My friend wasn't overly hungry but had the same spring rolls and was very happy. I enjoyed every dish and certainly didn't leave hungry. Prices are reasonable and what you'd expect from this type of restaurant. The menu Is extensive so I intend on going back when I'm in the area to try a few more dishes. We also chatted at length with the owner who is a delightful, personable lady. She contributed in no small way to the enjoyment of our visit.
Well I returned for my second visit with another friend. This time I had the escargot appetizer and a chicken parmesan as an entree. The escargot was delicious, served in a cream sauce with onions, bacon and whisky. Two generously filled bowls plus garlic bread. It's quite filling but I forged on to the chicken. Tender with a crispy coating. Linguine, decent sauce and more garlic bread. My friend said he was more than pleased with his choices. Generous serving of pork and said the Hungarian goulash was perfectly spiced and tasty. No hesitation recommending this place.
It's now mid August, 2023. Finally made it back to the area and I'm pleased to see that the food quality hasn't changed. Chicken Rahm. Light breading and tender white meat. Not dried out. The vegetables were perfectly done, in my opinion. Just enough bite...not mushy. Everything here has great flavor!
Here I am again..end of July 2024. Rahm schnitzel. Very crispy coating and topped with mushroom gravy, garlic mashed with perfectly done veggies. Never a wasted trip...
Read moreThis was our first time visiting this restaurant for a late Saturday lunch at 2:30pm; we happen to be in the area and this restaurant came highly recommended.
Their online menu is mobile friendly and very easy to navigate and read; same applies to their in house menu. The restaurant is licensed to serve alcohol.
There is plenty of free parking in the adjacent dirt road parking lot and there is a 2 hour free parking on the street.
Our server was absolutely perfect; friendly, social, professional and gave great service.
The interior of the restaurant was clean and well maintained. The bathrooms are absolutely spotless!
The chair's seating is padded and very comfortable and the tables are a nice larger size.
Appetizer Pickle Spears are deep fried and delicious and lightly breaded and are no where near doughy like some othet places.
The Cabbage Rolls are home made and not frozen. They were tasty but did lack some seasoning. The tomatoe sauce was tasty but could also use more seasoning.
Rham Schnitzel was excellent. The pork was juicy and the breading perfect. The mushroom sauce was tasty and well seasoned. The fries seem like hand cut and freshly made. Nicely seasoned and crispy. The side of veggies were cooked just the way we like them, tender crisp. This was an excellent dish.
Chicken Schnitzel was also cooked perfectly and the chicken was moist and delicious. The side of poutine was made with the house made fries and was also very tasty.
The portions were very generous and the prices are excellent.
Vek's so have a rewards program; see reward schedule for details.
Our overall experience was very good; from the clean parking lot, to the clean interior, excellent service and food. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and will definitely be returning to try their...
Read moreMy wife and I drive from the Barrie area to London quite frequently. Once you get away from Barrie/Alliston/Orangeville there do not seem to be many/any good independent restaurants until you get to London. We are just not into fast food or the corporate chain restaurants. They all taste the same and are mostly ‘heat it up’. We finally found a good independent restaurant though! Veky’s in Listowell is a hidden gem, a little off Highway 23, so we hadn’t noticed it. This is an old style charming restaurant with genuinely nice folks running it. The food is of an international flavour but you can get more standard fare too. I had a nice house salad that included a bit of potato salad, we split some nice spring rolls ( you get lots), and I had the Serbian cabbage rolls with mashed potato’s and a side of sauerkraut, slightly grilled. All really delicious. My wife had the salmon chowder and a meal sized salad, both of which she said were very good. I had a crepe with ice cream for desert, nice finish to a great meal. Lots of parking at the side of the building. Pleasant dining atmosphere and nicely spaced tables. We got chatting with the next table and they drive 30 minutes on a regular basis to dine here. We’ll...
