Canton Family Restaurant — Restaurant in North Sydney

I am really disappointed in the food here, over the last year or so!! The original owner was the father/father-in-law of the current owners. When talking to local people who have eaten here for 40 years or more, a lot of them are saying the same thing. The daughter-in-law has made changes and for whatever reason, the son and she seem to have changed and skimped on the food flavor and quality!! It has been told to the new owners and they haven't listened. The local people are what keep this restaurant open throughout the year, and if they dont go back to the original way that made it the popular place it was, they will not survive!! That is sad, because the food was always exceptional and you got lots for a fair price!! The staff were great and very happy with the original owners, but I can tell you now, it is not a happy place to work, by some of the faces on the staff. They have never said a word to me or anyone I know, but I have been going to this place for at least 35 years or more and the staff just look, very unhappy with the way things are run there. If there was zero stars i would give that. The worst Chinese food place I've ever been to. All combination plates are 14.75 no matter if its just plain fried rice and mixed vegetables or ribs rice chicken balls and chow mein, there should definitely be a price difference for cheaper, less food. I wanted my sweet and sour sauce on the side for my combo plate but was told it was 75 cents(plus tax) extra to get it on the side even though the sauce was supposed to come with the meal anyway, the girl behind the counter couldn't grasp the concept that the sauce is included in the price and that there shouldn't be an extra charge, i didn't get it, the food was expensive enough. Now the food, the rice was bland and mushy, the egg rolls were tasteless, the beef and broccoli tasted like the beef was rancid, an absolute waste of money. Ordered $90 worth of food online and organized one of my family members to pick it up. When we got it home, no sweet and sour sauce. I called and they agreed to credit the sweet and sour chicken balls (which was what I built the whole meal around, considering it was my favorite). I said no.. the point of the whole meal was the S&S CB. She then said I could just come pick it up. I explained to her that it's 15 minutes each way and that would mean my meal would be virtually cold when I got back home with it. Not to mention the extra trip there! She then told me she couldn't refund the S&S CB if I was coming to pick up the sauce. So, their mistake, cold dinner and extra fuel to go pick it up and they couldn't do anything for me. Pathetic!
