Ordered pizza at about 3:30 for a 5:30 pick up. My friend arrived on time however order was not ready until 6:00. It is a small/newer place so we can deal with that. What I cannot stand, however, is how my friend was treated when she picked up the pizza. The chef came out from the kitchen and admonished her for our order (1 NY style, 2 tavern, 2 detroit), saying that all these different types of pizzas take different times to cook, and really slowed down the kitchen in order to fulfill this order. He stated that this is the last time we would be able to make an order like that. My understanding was that this was not a quick chastising, he stood there for a minute or to and complained.
Regardless of whether or not this order slowed down the kitchen is completely beside the point. To make it the customer's issue after the order was accepted is beyond ridiculous. This is their menu, they chose to offer three different styles of pizza on it. Did it not occur that a customer would want to try each one? And it is not like we ordered a lot of pizza, the tavern's and detroit's are small, so this was a sampler for a small get-together. How on earth can they function as a pace where people sit down to order if they can't handle this? What if three tables at the restaurant order three different styles of pizza?
Furthermore, to then take this issue and make the customer feel bad is shocking. They accepted the order. If they cannot handle it, let customers know before hand. If it is the first time they realized they cannot handle it, communicate internally about the issue it caused and change the ordering policy from there. In no way should a customer be held accountable for ordering what is on the menu causing an issue in the kitchen.
Just a few comments on the pizza: overall the detroit and tavern were good. The giardiniera pizza did not have giardiniera on it as both the name and description suggests, just pickled peepers. The NY pizza was good but was more of a novelty, and I can't imagine anyone ordering it a second time.
I just want to reiterate my shock and dismay about how anyone could have the gull to get mad at a customer for something like this. I hope the chef really takes a good look at himself and thinks that if he wants to run a successful business, he should change how he...
Read moreI had a great experience in every respect at Edmonton's Lore Pizza in early January 2024. I'm already a big fan of Trial & Ale's sour & wild artisanal ales, and was really excited to hear that they were opening a front tasting room...with food. It's very unassuming from the outside, but don't let that fool you. Stepping inside this place for lunch or an evening meal is definitely worthwhile.
We sat at the bar, and while enjoying first pints at the bar from guest taps, we watched some beautiful and (in some cases really large!) pizzas being delivered to nearby tables. After some explanation by the friendly staff & the owner Ryan, we decided on one thin-crust Chicago tavern pizza (the Giardiniera & Sausage) and one Detroit style pie (Steve's Spicy Sausage Trio). We were not disappointed. Trial & Ale's passion for crafting great beer has clearly been transposed to its pizza, and I can only imagine it getting better with time. The Giardiniera was beautifully balanced (with some awesome heat!) and was a great starter. The Detroit pie was more substantial, and deceiving in size - it looked small, but it was more than enough, and super tasty. I also had a gorgeous prickly pear sour beer from Trial & Ale's series of taps with the second pizza - "That Night at La Choza".
Long story short, I plan to take some more friends to Lore next time to try one of the 24" New York pizzas. Even if sour beer isn't your thing, this is a worthwhile experience. There's a lot of choice on the menu, and I'd suggest letting the staff be your guide - they are knowledgeable and will not...

The thick detroit style pizza with its crispy edges, is my all time favourite. 2 slices and you're stuffed, and it is just as amazing the next day....or 3. Definitely the best I've had in Edmonton! I always judge a pizza by its crust, and how good it is for leftovers, and these pizzas stand up to that test. The thin crust (Chigago style), is the perfect snack with a beer if you don't want too much food (highly recommend the spicy sausage one). This crust takes 8 days to make and you can taste the love that goes in to it. My kids LOVED the massive cheese pizza that showed up to their table. Most kids leave the crust behind, but these guys continued eating the crust, even after they were full. Each slice is one pound of pizza (basically 3...
