We came in about a week ago — it was around 11am for an early lunch. The board said the sandwich of the day was turkey (YAY), so I ordered a turkey sandwich and a soup… the bread wasn’t ready which is odd, so I had to get a bread I don’t like. Then we got to the till and paid, and as we walked to a table, I realized it was more than the price on the board. So I walked back to the till and said ‘excuse me, we got the special, but I think we were charged regular’ and she replied with a nasty attitude, ‘the special isn’t turkey today, it’s HAM!’ And I’m like, ‘okay, well the board says turkey…’ and she rudely replied, ‘well we haven’t changed the board yet!’ … sorry but not my issue, that should’ve been done before opening the door. Also, CRAZY to be rude to a customer over your mistake, instead of rectifying the mistake. On top of this, the soup was cold, not hot, not even warm…. cold like it just came out of the fridge. Also, there ended up being a hair in the second half of my sandwich that I had wrapped and saved until later that day. The half was wrapped separately in the store by an employee before being given to us at the till… anyways, I’ve always had good experiences at Fifendekel, and have been a regular with my family for years, as well as ordering catering for multiple businesses, so this was super disappointing and embarrassing because I brought a guest who’d never been before and I’d raved about it to them, all for this to be...
Read moreWent here for lunch on a weekday. Plenty of parking in front (shared with other businesses). The place does get decently busy at lunch - something to keep in mind if you're popping in with the anticipation of a quick in-and-out. Lots of seating. The line starts off with sandwiches, goes to the soup and then the desert. They did have gluten-free bread here (+$1.45) - but sometimes they do run out so you will want to call ahead to make sure. I got a turkey sandwich on the gluten-free bread and it was... meh. Might try another sandwich next time. To their credit - they did use a different cutting board, knife and gloves when making my sandwich to avoid cross-contamination.
They weren't sure which soups were gluten-free, so I skipped those. The pies here looked delicious (so obviously not gluten-free), but they only have gluten-free pie on Wednesdays (a caramel cream pie). Might be back to give it another shot if a co-worker is insistent – too many other options in the west-end at this...
Read moreThis place has considerabley gone done hill. I wish the owner of Fifendekel would stop in and do quality control because I am sure they would roll in their grave. Today I ordered the autoban sandwich. The tripple meat sandwich and got about half a slice of each meat. The cheese slice was larger than the meat. The meat didnt even fill one peice of bread. They also did not have the dill mayo(which an older staff heard the new staff said no they had none and whipped me up a little batch). Overall still amazing bread and sandwich toppings. Just sad about the inconsistencies and poor portions at this location. The chocolate cream pie was a chunky gross consistency which is rare for Fifendekel. Lastly as I paid I asked the staff what her favorite thing to eat on the menu was and her response was "absolutely nothing, I dont like to eat here". Well it shows. Someone from upper management get in touch AND pay this...
