Have been seeing a lot of interesting new food trends out of Japan. Was interested in trying Miso soup and chicken katsu curry.
I had seen panko crusted chicken cutlets fried golden brown cut into slices with a darker curry sauce drizzled atop.
What I received at this restaurant was something more like grandma’s rice and chicken stew with lots of carrot and onion in a bowl. There was rice atop four slivers of chicken, the width and length of shoestring French fries.
Every bite was the same, just like a mixed stew. The curry sauce had the right colour but the curry powder was barely perceptible — I guess I could have asked for $1 extra curry.
For $17 or so, a meal, this was quite overpriced for what was presented, unfortunately. Maybe $4 of ingredients went into making this bowl…likely less.
For the second meal, the portion was small and the char sui pork slices tasted off. Sorry! Seemed preserved, not like cut from a freshly roasted or barbecued pork roast.
I think the restaurant should focus on the very brisk sushi side of the business. Seemed like that is what everyone but us received. Takeout was steady. ….Or look at what foods people are seeing come out of Japan right now. It’s not small dainty dishes with little texture and...
Read moreM&E Food: Salad 4/5 - nicely cold, fresh, crunchy. Sauce were evenly spread. Miso 4/5 - thumbs up for pre stirred. Tasty exactly as it supposed to be. Temperature was perfect. Ramen 3/5 - I really liked the egg inside, it was perfectly boiled with soft heart. Also pork belly tasted standard. Soup & bamboo was blend. Tuna lover 2.5/5 - Tuna sashimi did not have much texture, flavour like other good ones I had before. Tuna sushi was below average for taste and texture also. Maybe the fish wasn’t very fresh or they didn’t get better quality products? Spicy tuna roll was surprisingly the outstanding one I would give it a 3.5/5 on its own.
Service: 4/5. I was the only there when dining so I would not know how good their services are when busy. But server did check up on my food twice, also came third time to refill my tea cup. His timing on table check was outstanding.
Vibe: 3.5/5 - it’s hidden in a quiet community. I was attracted by their logo sign at first. Store actually bigger than it looks on internet. Clean and normal.
Overall value at 3.75/5 place to dine. Price is pretty competitive...
Read moreMy roommate and I usually order sushi once a week, it's our thing don't judge. Below I have broken up my experience:
Service: I've always done pick-up. Their timing is usually right on within +/- 10 min. If this is a big deal for you, use that 10 min to meditate because you clearly need it. At non-busy hours they can have your order ready in 15 min. At peak hours, expect an 40 min to 60 min rate, perfectly reasonable.
Quality: In general, the sushi has been good. Not perfect, not the best, good. Their price is fair for what you get, and I'm clearly a return customer. There are instances where I find the (raw) salmon has an "off" taste; I still eat it (probably shouldn't), but I haven't had food poisoning from here yet...
In general, it's been a good establishment and I've always been pleased with their sushi. The 10% discount is AMAZING if you're doing pick up. I personally enjoy this sushi over Sushi Hour. Keep up the...
