I rarely write negative ones, but my experience at Mehfill Indian Cuisine was so thoroughly disappointing that it warrants honest feedback. I visited with the hope of enjoying a simple, comforting North Indian meal, but what I encountered was far from acceptable in terms of both taste and quality.
I ordered the classic chole bhature, a dish that’s a staple at many North Indian restaurants and, when done right, is immensely satisfying. Unfortunately, Mehfill managed to completely botch both components of this otherwise straightforward dish. The batura—which should ideally be puffed, airy, and mildly crisp on the outside—was a complete disaster. It resembled an old, reheated XL size poori rather than the rich, fresh bread it’s supposed to be. It was overly soaked in oil, had a sticky, dense texture, and left a greasy residue on the fingers. The batter seemed poorly prepared, with no sign of proper care in frying. It was nauseating after a few bites, both in taste and texture, to the point that I had to stop eating midway.
The chole was no better. Chickpeas are meant to be tender, flavorful, and well-spiced in this dish. What I received were chickpeas that had clearly been over-soaked or improperly stored—they had an odd, almost sour undertone that was simply inadmissible. They lacked the depth and warmth of spices that define good chole, and instead tasted flat, stale, and questionable in freshness. I couldn’t help but feel that I might be risking a stomach upset if I finished the dish.
The worst part of the experience was the overwhelming sense of regret with each bite. When you order something as basic and beloved as chole bhature, there’s a certain minimum expectation—not for gourmet-level execution, Mehfill failed to meet even that. The food wasn’t just subpar; it was unsettling. I didn’t finish the meal, and I’m genuinely thankful I didn’t. I walked out of the restaurant not just dissatisfied, but concerned about what I had just put into my body.
Service was indifferent, with staff showing little interest in asking how the food was or checking in during the meal. While the ambiance was average and the menu looked promising on paper, none of that matters when the food fails so completely at the basics.
In a city with several excellent Indian dining options, Mehfill falls dangerously short. If the restaurant cannot execute even one of the most popular North Indian dishes with competence, I hesitate to imagine what the rest of the menu might be like. I won’t be returning, and I cannot recommend this place to anyone who values freshness, authenticity, or their...

Read moreI really should have ordered from the middle Eastern restaurant across the parking lot and I could have had a wonderful meal like before! I wanted to try this with my teenage son and he wanted poutine butter chicken to start with - 3 little dime sized pieces of chicken , about 20 fries and the butter sauce was chunky - it looks like it came from a bottle to be honest and the presentation was terrible!! I can’t believe I wasted my money. The noodles were mediocre ! I should also mention how odd and rude the male owner was when I came in- he was at the counter on his cell phone and his wife/ female staff Was behind the cash register and she was the one who greeted me - so naturally I spoke and interacted with her - but this odd man on his cell phone kept repeating everything that this female staff was saying to me ( I asked how much- I owed her she said the price and he repeated what she said without looking at me , I asked if she accepted cash and she said yes- then this guy repeated what she said - he was still looking down on his cell phone- so I finally said- I’m speaking to her ! Oh my gosh - what a disappointment after months of waiting in our neighborhood! I’ll go back to the Indian restaurant either at Fairview and walkers line or the one at appleby and Fairview - authentic and professionals! I wish I could get my money back! Now I know where not to take my family especially my daughters - this odd man might talk...
