From out of town for a child’s hockey game and previously scouted the specialty coffee scene in Kingston. One of my choices was Juniper Café which was really close to the arena I was at which influenced my choice along with other reviews and pictures. Location….very good. With ample parking, south facing store front and in a small plaza with 4 other businesses. Inside…I loved the mixed use of industrial lighting &equipment stands used as table bases.Mixed medium brown hardwood finishes/ details mixed into the counter, custom bench seating and accents. All on a white painted backdrop with earth tones splashed here and there with materials and textures. Ambiance…super chill and relaxed. What appeared to be friends, coffee dates and some folks on laptops doing whatever and not overly loud. Service……super impressed with the 1 single person taking orders, making beverages, table delivering orders all without a single drop of sweat, exuding a sense of calmness and no stress. I 100% feel that fed into the ambiance of the whole place. In my experience this sense of calmness is not a typical trait of a busy Café and there always seemed to be orders in the 40mins I spent there. Menu….well priced and well appointed list of options for consumption. Purchased was a pair of Espresso based latte’s and those shots perfectly pulled and tasting notes present as described. Also fantastic were the pair of baked goods and most note ably the shared Brie L.T. Wow….the bread was probably some of the best sourdough I have had in a Café. The basil aoili and olive oil dressing really finished off that sandwich incredibly. Sorry no picture as it got eaten once it was picked up! Lol 100% will return the next time I am in town!

My recent breakfast escapade at a coffee shop in Kingston, Ontario left me with mixed feelings. While there were certainly highlights, there were also a few disappointments along the way. Let's start with the positives. The veggie sandwich was a delightful surprise. Packed with flavorful vegetables, it was a delicious and satisfying choice. I relished every bite and appreciated the care put into its preparation. The oatmeal kolache was equally enjoyable, with its soft texture and just the right amount of sweetness. It provided a delightful treat to accompany my morning coffee. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm was dampened by a few drawbacks. Firstly, the lack of clear instructions for the entrance was quite frustrating. I found myself confused upon arrival, searching for clear signage or guidance. It would greatly enhance the overall experience if the coffee shop could address this issue and make the entrance more easily identifiable. Additionally, the prices at this establishment left me taken aback. Paying $16+ tax for a sandwich felt steep, even considering the quality of ingredients. It may be worth considering more affordable options to cater to a wider range of customers. Another letdown was the lack of comprehensive explanations for the vegetarian sandwich options and available drinks. It would have been helpful to receive more information to make informed choices. Furthermore, there seemed to be some confusion or disorganization in their system, which impacted the overall satisfaction of the experience. On a positive note, the coffee shop boasts an amazing view that adds a touch of charm to the ambiance. The scenic setting creates a pleasant environment to enjoy breakfast and relax.

While I have long admired the service and food at juniper; my recent experience with their high tea was not at all upto the mark they had set in the past or with what a typical high tea is supposed to be. I don’t think I have felt like a second class citizen in a long long time until I was at the High tea here. The server made us feel like we were such a bother. They came to take ask our tea and sandwich order and we told them sorry but we don’t know what the tea selection is. They came back with tea but didn’t offer any milk or sugar. I tried to wave ot get attention but they were busy making rounds at other tables. They gave us out sandwich and cutlery but no plates. We thought they went back to get them since their hands were occupied but no one came back. We waited a while but ultimately I went to grab it at front desk. None of the servers told us what the desserts were or anything! We had to wave down someone to come refill water in the tea pot. Surprisingly the other 2 tables that were there for high tea were constantly getting the attention of the server but not us! Not sure what the reason was such rudeness and cold shoulder.

While I like the food they offer, I wouldn’t spend my $$ at a place that thinks my business is not valued by them. Utterly disappointed as I have always loved this cafe and their food but this experience was embarrassing and hurtful.

Old review: I have absolutely always loved coming here! I think I have tried everything on the menu at least once!! My fav are the focaccia sandwiches and tomato soup! Also the iced vanilla latte with macadamia milk. The service is prompt and food delicious. It gets pretty crowded inside so patio is...
