King of the Pigs — Restaurant in Ontario

Decided to try King of the pigs as their reviews were pretty good; but after visiting the restaurant, clearly the reviews were absolutely incorrect. When my family and I sat down, the waitress came and dropped the menus and proceeded to head back to the kitchen. She did not ask if we would like anything to drink but rather was more fixated in the conversation that she was having with the kitchen staff. When we were ready to order, we had to flag her down multiple times before she even came to the table. She was very fast in taking the orders but did not write anything down. When the food arrived at the table, I noticed that my food, which I asked for a poutine was simply a batch of cold fries. My aunt requested rice with her meal and she was given cold fries. My sister in law requested a salad and was given fries. I reached out to the waitress to advise that the side orders were incorrect and she gave attitude like I did not know what order I placed. After waiting for a while, I received my poutine and my God it was the worst thing ever. The gravy looked old and thr cheese was still hard and cold. While trying to make the most of it, I noticed that fries at the bottom of the poutine was still ice cold which proved it was not fresh. I inquired with the waitress if I could switch it out for a salad instead. Again, she seemed irritated by my request as again she was in another conversation with the kitchen staff. Please note that we were not the only patrons at the restaurant. We did not finish our food as it was horrible. We paid and left vowing never to return to the subpar service that was provided. I would rather spend my money elsewhere where the food and service were better....

(2025/07/17) I placed a take-out online order today, and everything went on pretty well like I expected. Went there and my order was ready, no need to wait. Delicious ribs were still very warm back home, this way is better.

(2025/05/09) First visit today, overall an satisfying dinner. Ordered a Combo Set with Chicken and Pork Side Ribs, paid an extra $3 for another side (fries and salads). The service was friendly and efficient, during an off-peak period. I got all my foods within 10 minutes after placing my order.

The price levels are there, so as the portion size. Considering the Portuguese Bun, this Combo Set is definitely not designed for a single person. I did finish them all at the end myself, but slightly too much. I would say every single item was good, crispy seasoned fries and fresh salads. But the mains could get better: Some parts of the ribs were already lukewarm when I got them, had to finish them quickly otherwise cold ribs soon; Tender chicken but some parts were still a bit dry. Maybe a little bit picky, but if the ribs get the temperature of the chicken and the chicken gets the tenderness of the ribs, then almost perfect.

Although you can place online orders for mains only without bread or sides, this option is not available on the menu if dining in. Next time, I will go for...

We tried King of the Pigs for the first time on Sunday Aug 29, 2021. We ordered A "Meal for 2" that consisted of chicken, ribs, fries , salad and 2 custard tarts. I also bought a bottle of their own hot sauce.

The food was AMAZING. The chicken was cooked to perfection, very tender, just the right amount of spice. VERY good flavor. The ribs were equally as delicious. Not too much sauce, not too much rub, just the right amount of everything. The ribs have a fantastic smokey flavor to them. I forgot to ask if they sell their Rib sauce but I'll probably follow up this week some time to find out.

The fries were decent. Nothing too special about them but they're more of a side dish anyway and not meant to be the star of the dish.

HELPFUL INFO: we originally called, hoping to get our food delivered but they only have a set number of delivery slots so the girl on the phone recommended trying to place the order a day before. Not a big deal though we went and picked it up.
