Not going to return, very, very disappointing!!!
On November 30, our group of three had a reservation for 6:30pm at Piccolos. Upon arriving at 6:15pm, we were advised that there were no tables available for our group and they asked that we wait on the takeout side, which we soon came to realize, was a dark and dingy closet size room, making us feel like we were in the movie castaway. When we asked how long a wait we would expect for a table, the response we got made you feel like you’re talking to the Cable company “we are experience higher than normal volumes, please hold and we will be with you shortly”. After a forty minute wait, now in a very crowded castaway section of ten, we were guided to a table. Also and very important to note, when entering the restaurant, we were giving our waiter our name and reservation time, when a customer arrived just behind us with a Chihuahua under his arm. We commented that we did not want a table next to this dog and we were told that it was a service animal and that nothing could be done about it, as it was in fact a ‘Service’ animal. Truly, the Staff is not aware of the law covering Service animals and Guide dogs. “The Law forbids Service animals from certain premises, typically where food is processed, manufactured, or sold. Guide dogs are allowed into places where food is served or sold, but the law excludes other animals.”
As we were being seated at our table, the waiter accidently hit my hand, forcing my fingers, finger deep into another customer’s food. The waiter apologized, handed me a napkin and then continued to serve the very same food to his customer.
Once seated and reviewing the menu, I found dried pasta sauce on the pages of my menu, which certainly was not a good impression; however, consistent with my previous observations.
We then ordered some wine and our meal, advising our waiter that my wife has an allergy to citrus fruit, ‘lemon, lime, and orange’ and that it is very important that she not be served any of these fruits or juices in anything. When the waiter delivered the wine and some water to our table, the water had a wedge of lemon in it. It took a half hour to get replacement water. This type of mistake makes my wife extremely concerned as she questions what her entrée will hold.
We waited over 2 hours for the first plate of food to arrive. The family of four, seated at a table near to us forty-five minutes after our seating, received their meal before us. Our first meal delivered was disgustingly dried out and overcooked, as if it had been under a heat lamp far too long. This meal, when ordered, was specifically requested to have ‘no black olives’ and yet, they delivered it with black olive throughout the entire dish.
The second plate of food arrived five minutes after the first and looked horrid, dried out and repulsive. We never did receive the third plate, as we canceled our order and left. As this was now 9pm, our options of dining elsewhere on a Friday night were very limited.
When leaving, the Staff comments were: “We are busy on Fridays”, “It is the holiday season”, “We over booked”. We saw this dilemma as a Management issue and an extremely poor one at that.
In reviewing the reviews on line, it is evident that we are not alone in our experience nor in our opinion. Terribly...
Read moreTonight me and my family of 4 people celebrated my birthday at Piccolos for dinner. We enjoyed our food as it was incredibly tasty, the portions were more than enough that we all took leftovers home to have and the service was very friendly and fast considering how busy they were. However, as a family we were a bit taken back by how the resturant neglected to accommodate my wishes regarding my physically handicapped mother who uses an electric wheelchair prior to our reservation.
I booked a reservation and had personally gone in during open hours over a week in advance to make sure she would be able to come through the doors and navigate her way through the restuarant. Once I saw the entrance was wide enough to allow her through I went to book a reservation but expressed my concern with a worker. I did not think the setup with the booth in the middle right when you walk in would allow her to make wide turns and back up with enough space. The worker I spoke with that day assured me that they would be more than happy to rearrange the floor setup to make sure she had space to move through comfortably which could include that booth to be moved to a different space. She mentioned more than one approach to where they could sit us to make sure I knew they would be accommodating. I personally saw her write the note about my mothers wheelchair in their reservation book and felt that concern was taken care of. Unfortunately when we arrived the floor setup did not look like it had been changed since I went to make a reservation. The resturant was definitely busy when we arrived. I am not sure if those parties were walk ins or other reservations but knowing I had already spoken to someone prior, I was disappointed to see that the message was not received at all. After quickly trouble shooting to avoid clustering the front entrance we were placed at a table on the right hand side close to where people payed but it was tight. I was supposed to have a party of 5 people not 4 but at the last minute my 5th person canceled. If there was 5 people I am not sure if we would have been able to make it work as well as we did.
The reason I am writing this review is because if our reservation included a bigger party number without a handicapped person I am positive arrangements would be made to make sure everyone would be comfortable to sit prior to the time of a reservation. Meaning alterations to the floor setup would be made. I am not entirely sure why my concern was not taken seriously but if your establishment is capable of allowing wheelchairs to enter your building you need to respond with that consistency inside the building as well. I am aware that building accessibility bylaws can be grandfathered towards older buildings but seeing as the resturant is all on one floor with moveable sitting it is not an impossible task to accommodate for a wheelchair.
Our server was very helpful in making up for this set back. We appreciated her not charging us for two glasses of wine and helping us with the birthday cake my aunt brought. We would like to come back as the food was worth it but we are bit hesitant about if my mother would be accommodated...
Read moreI went here tonight for dinner with my siblings as a late Christmas celebration. I made a reservation for 6pm, about a week ago for tonight )over the phone). Upon arriving, there were roughly 10 people in front of us waiting to be sat, and they all said they had reservations. Everyone waiting had reservations for 6pm. The staff knew we were all waiting and had reservations, but we still waited and waited. At 7pm, we finally all got sat (my group, along with the other groups in front of us). Aside from this, a group that came in behind us that said they had a reservation for 6:30pm got sat before us. I do understand that there are certain tables to accommodate a certain number of people, however this group only had 1 extra person than we had. One of the individuals I was with explained to a staff member that we had been waiting almost an hour to be sat (with a reservation), and she didn’t say much, just that they were finally cleaning off a table for us. We ordered drinks and appetizers, and requested to order our entrees at the same time, as we knew it would be a while (were all familiar with the fact the food takes a while here, as it’s all made to order and made fresh). However, we wanted to order as we were already an hour late from the time we thought we’d be sitting. The waiter told us he’d be right back after he put our drink/appetizer order in, and proceeded to come back 25 minutes later to have us order. The food came quicker than we expected, and everything was delicious, very hot, and huge portions. I wanted to enjoy this place as so many people rave it, and you can’t go wrong with Italian food. However, with waiting over an hour to be seated with a reservation, and extremely slow service, it left a bad taste in my mouth. Also, we did debate going somewhere else (while we waited to be sat), but we thought we’d stick it out and wait, as we really wanted to try this place and had gift cards to use. I understand that sometimes things happen and a restaurant can get busy and backed up, but the fact that not one staff member even said “Sorry for the wait” or mentioned any kind of apology about the extremely long wait rubbed me the wrong way. I unfortunately don’t think I’d recommend going here, Spago is definitely a much better choice for Italian food in Windsor. I hate complaining about restaurants and servers, because I know some of them work very hard to provide good service. I just feel like that wasn’t the case tonight. Delicious food, good drinks, and the atmosphere...
