This place was absolutely amazing! The food, was sooooo good. The staff was super friendly, and was very helpful when we couldn't make up our minds. The menu made it really hard to choice what to get becuase everyrhing sounded absolutely delicious. We ended up having the stuffed mushrooms, which are dipped in the fish batter (we honestly thought they were going to be frozen, so was pleasantly surprised) and the gaffers and they were both so good. We got the fish and chips, which, yes, were a little greasy but honestly if you know English fish and chips, is not surprising, and the crunch to the batter, oh my good it was mouth watering! It's unfortunate that one can't get decent food anymore and yet pay so much for what you get. So here are a few suggestions for the owner/manager of this establishment: Put your salad (even the small portion) on a decent size plate so that you can at least toss it to mix the dressing in without everything falling off the sides. The balsamic dressing was acutually tasteless as was the mixed greens. Don't put cheese in your potato soup. It makes for messing eating trying to deal with the cheese strings clinging to your spoon. The soup was too creamy, and didn't have enough body to it. The flavour was just passable. The garlic bread was toasted nicely but was not a good quality bread and lacked garlic flavour. The home made battered mushrooms are the most delicious we have ever had anywhere!! I would make the 1.5 hour drive back for them alone! This was our first visit to the Gibbled Goose we came across this little spot while searching for a place for dinner while visiting Whistling Gardens. The atmosphere was casual and our server Graydon was very friendly and helpful. We even met the very lovely cook and the pride she takes in her meals is evident, I absolutely recommend you come for a meal if you haven’t been here before.
