We came to the keg to celebrate my husband’s birthday on June 26th. We made a reservation and I did make a note on it that we were celebrating a birthday. We rarely go out for “fancy” dinners and decided to splurge and go for a nice dinner at the keg to celebrate. When we arrived we checked in for our reso and since the weather was nice we were offered to sit on the patio if we wished instead of the dining room. Little did we know this was the start to our horrible experience. When greeted by our server we weren’t made aware of the current/new seasonal menu items or asked at the start if there was anything we were celebrating(not a huge deal, we can read a menu and the bday was noted on our reservation) Ordered drinks(soda water and a Stella) to be told 5 minutes later that they actually didn’t have Stella. No problem. We picked a different one. We were never brought the complimentary table bread. We ordered 2 appetizers, one came. The other did not. Someone else other than our server delivered our one app so we waited for our server to come back to ask about the other. She didn’t come back. Then our meals came out (18oz prime rib and blackened chicken) by someone other than our server. When we were 3/4 of the way through our entree our server came out finally and we made her aware of the missed app and to make sure it wasn’t on our bill. Then we were also able to make her aware that the onions did not come out with the prime rib. Not once were we asked for any kind of drink refills, or water. Then for dessert, after being asked if we wanted to order any we made her aware that it was my husbands birthday and our server offered the complimentary Billie miner pie (one of the big draws for celebrating at the keg!). She came out with cutlery and then we had to wait a good 10 minutes before dessert came out. We felt completely neglected and very low priority. The final cherry on top was after getting home we noticed that we actually were charged the $13 for the pie, which was then still tipped on top of that. Overall extremely disappointed with our entire experience and would think twice before visiting this establishment again and would rather give another competitor...
Read moreThe wife and I went here last week for dinner. The customer service was excellent. The restaurant was clean, elegant and modern, with a few kinks to work out.
Our first table we seated at, was soo high for both our arms, it made us feel like kids again. 5' 9" shouldn't have this issue. Waitress was great and seated us to another table. While that one was rocking back and forth we made do and enjoyed the night.
The red pepper jelly, brie cheese and mini toast appitzer was fantastic! The beer menu was lackluster with only a few choices that were just, meh. The whiskey menu is missing premiums such as forty Creek and jack. The New York strip and tenderloin filet Mignon while tasting fantastic and had a nice peppercorn seasoning was very undercooked and much closer to rare than medium rare. The bacon was gooey and certainly concerning for a restaurant of this caliper. Overall the flavor was there, but could have been cooked until pink not blood red. Tip: Order well if you want medium rare in this location!
The Twice baked potato was off the charts good! Huge flavor and massive! Can't stop thinking about it. The vegetables on the other hand were honestly quite bad and bland. The carrots were really hard, not fully cooked or steamed. No seasoning on the veggies. This dish would be 10x better with a little garlic butter, or heck even some garlic salt or even butter, anything is better than plain.
The complimentary bread was among the freshest and best we've had, absolutely perfect. The ceaser salad would be a 5 star if it had bacon, but nevertheless excellent.
The creme brulee and mini brownie desserts were spot on! The mini brownie is enough for two people and excellent!
Overall the experience was good, customer service even better, all the sides with the exception of vegetables were excellent! Review would be at least 4 stars if the bacon wasn't gooey, and steaks were cooked properly, while everything was good, $42-52 stake dinners shouldnt be anything less than perfect , we don't come to the keg for awesome bread and potato's afterall :p
We will certainly be back to give this location another crack at...
Read moreWe recently visited here for a dinner to celebrate a special occasion. This was the first time we had stopped by to check out this relocated Keg. In terms of atmosphere it is miles ahead of its former Wellington Road location. Modern, sleek, but still warm and inviting. We sat on the patio to enjoy our dinner and, although spacious, I do caution the patio on a hot summer day as there are some spots (like where we sat) that just get hammered by the sun. So if you’re heat adverse try to have the host staff seat you somewhere with adequate shade.
With the meal we received complimentary bread service. Not much to say here other than the bread was warm and fresh. Had we known about the bread service we likely would’ve held back on our appetizer which was the baked Brie which came with its own serving of crusty bread. This was an absolute delight and has made its way to a must have for our family!
Our son had the deli sandwhich which came with a serving of jus. Only complaint here was the amount served isn’t really adequate for the whole sandwhich, but that’s really a minor quibble. I enjoyed the honey glazed salmon which was cooked to perfection. I opted for a side of fries in lieu of seasonal greens. My wife went with the Cobb salad with shrimp protein add-on. The presentation was a nice touch but if you’ve not had a salad served this way, be prepared to do some cutting as you’ll have to break down the serving to become your meal.
Our server was okay. I had the sense she may have been new so there was some leeway taken into consideration. With more time I think she’d be a great server but there were moments of lacking knowledge and slightly tardy service in terms of drink refills - especially the water considering we were sitting in direct sun on an incredibly hot day.
Overall we were really pleased with our experience here and definitely consider The Keg Wellington location to be superior to The Keg Masonville, which was a different experience altogether. If you’re looking for a chain restaurant with good atmosphere and food, you can’t go wrong with The...
