I will never go back to 168 Sushi even at their Wonderland and Oxford location beside Crabby Joe’s restaurant. I would NOT recommend any of you coming to 168 Sushi! First off, why would they charge a mandatory 15% tip thinking it is granted to them? It is not our part as patrons to pay for your employees’ wages as it is the manager’s job that is responsible to pay their wages. Tips are based on customer service and satisfaction. This is not a fancy 5 Star Michelin sushi restaurant, but serves farm raised salmon that is not coming from Alaska, or Norway , and it is mainly mediocre food and using canola oil hence the lowest quality oil as they don’t use avocado oil. All of their fish is farmed raised and you are getting poor quality products. Why would we want to tip them; if they put a 90 minute timer on their iPads? They want to give you less time to stay at their restaurant even it is not busy and want you to pay at the end. So, it means they give you limited time to eat and order hence giving you the short end of the stick. How come iHeart Sushi restaurant across from Finch GMC-Cadillac-Buick-Chevrolet dealership, and Sushi Galore restaurant at Hyde Park across the road from Rona (formerly Lowe’s) hardware store does not automatically mandatory 15% tipping and have a time limit on their tablets? This is a sign 168 Sushi is scamming you by robbing your hard earn money. It is not my part to pay a big tip to pay for your wages; if they are serving the food out slowly and put a time limit. 168 Sushi back 10 years ago was not like that. There is no time limit on the tablets and they did not asked for a mandatory 15% tip. The last time I went to 168 Sushi; I only got a few pieces of farmed raised salmon, and a few piece of mussels, and few pieces of corn that is sprayed with glyphosate plus a few scoops of ice cream that they use high fructose corn syrup not like real ice cream made with Canadian dairy! This is not a Michelin Star restaurant! Salmon is not from Alaska or from British Columbia! Mussels is not coming from Maine or Nova Scotia! Corn is sprayed with pesticides! They get low quality beef! They use canola oil! They will never get $0.01 from me again! If I see a 168 Sushi sign; I am running away! Best alternative for sushi buffet is Sushi Galore at Fanshawe Park Road in the Hyde Park area near the Canadian Tire of the big shopping plaza! 168 Reasons not to come here should be the name! I am not paying a big bill just serving mediocre and low quality as bad as Taco Bell. I would rather eat at real sushi restaurant even it is not all you can eat. Not even Jack Astor’s, Montana’s and most restaurants does not add a mandatory tipping. This is not America where they want a big tip on food while Canada is based on service. How come people serving bags of popcorns at Cineplex and the mechanics fixing your cars do not get a tip? What makes 168 Sushi wants that. They are greedy, and any restaurant that is greedy will not get $1.00 from me as I worked hard for to make ends meet. No money will never goes towards here. Not coming back here forever. 168 Sushi does not meet customer satisfaction of forcing tipping, limited dine-in time and poor service hence not a business to make customers pay what they are getting their worth of...
Read moreThe food was okay but I was absolutely SHOCKED at the service. While the owner was very kind and didn’t overcharge us to take home our left overs, WE WERE CUT OFF FROM ORDERING!!! We called ahead because we wanted to come for the lunch special ($22.99). When we arrived, we made it right before dinner started (3:30 for dinner???) and the servers told us we could still get the lunch special, but only 1 round of food. Not a problem at all, however, it was kinda stressful so we ordered a whole bunch of food (in fear that we would still be hungry after) with the intention to pay to take home the rest if we didn’t finish it. One of my friends was vegetarian. They brought out all the food that me and my other friend ordered, but not my vegetarian friend’s. We asked the server if it was still coming and they told us no because we ordered too much food (mind you this is an all-you-can-eat buffet). I was fuming but kept my composure, as I’ve worked in the food industry before and didn’t want to be rude. We explained to our server that our vegetarian friend didn’t get any of her food, so she grabbed the owner and he basically said the same thing, but still brought out 1 of her dishes. For the price she ended up paying in the end ($37), she would’ve just gotten a-la-cart for the 2 items she actually ate. And again, she would’ve gotten more had we not been cut off. I understand not wanting to waste food but we made an effort to eat pretty much all the food that was brought out. There were only 3 dishes that went to waste (the fries and pad Thai were atrocious and the edamame was slimy), and we brought home everything else.
When we got our bills. We were charged the regular lunch price ($28.99). When I asked about it, I was told that we couldn’t get the special because it’s for students and because we ordered beef. 1. I am a student and 2. We were never told what we could and couldn’t order (the beef wasn’t even that good and would’ve skipped it if I knew). I paid an extra $10 to take home my sushi, so my bill was around $46 (I would’ve tipped if we were charged the lunch special price like we were told we would’ve gotten). If I knew it was going to be that much, I could’ve just paid the dinner price and had access to the full menu.
After this experience, I’d rather just go to Heart Sushi or Sushi Galore. They have pretty much the same menu and better...
Read moreWhen being seated we asked for a booth that doesn’t have an AC vent above as we find it extremely cold. Hostess said no problem and proceeded to sit us at a booth with a vent on and it was way to cold/dark. We asked to be moved to the booth beside us (there were 4 large ones available) and told no because those are reserved for tables of 6 and larger. When less then 25% capacity in the restaurant at the time we asked if they could make an exception for our party of 4 to sit there. We were told no as they had reservations. When the server came over we asked again to be moved and he said only the hostess could move us. When I asked for a manager was told she was off and the hostess was the only person who could move us. She came back over and we asked politely again and told us we have reservations. We then said if we stay in this booth we’re not happy with and those 4 booths do not fill up we won’t be very impressed as that means they lied. Are they committing they are sure we can’t move to one. The waiter now gets upset as he thinks we’ve threatened them and now refuses to serve us. We say fine we will stay where we are but not happy they aren’t flexible. The hostess says yes we are very unflexible and even though she knows we’re paying a lot of money for our table it’s not important for them to provide customer service and give us a table we are statisfied with. She was very clear customer service is NOT their priority as it doesn’t suit their needs.
After we agreed to stay at the table we were at were told we now have a problem because she doesn’t have a waiter who will serve us so we can order but no one will bring us our food. We said but that’s his job and she said she can’t force him to do his job if he doesn’t want to.
At no point in time were we rude, or unfriendly all we did was question why we couldn’t have a decent booth and let them know we wouldn’t be impressed if the 4 booths don’t fill up as she indicated they would (it was after 1pm so lunch rush was over for the most part).
We will not return to this restaurant. It’s awful their hostess who claims to be running the place says herself customer service isn’t a priority for them and that they aren’t flexible because they don’t need to be and it’s not how they run...
