Edit note: This review was for Tony Roma's on Wellington Road, London Ontario. It appears there has been a name change as it now reads Eleven Sixty Bar & Grill on this Google review.
Rich was our server and he was fabulous! More on that later...
The atmosphere is very clean and comfortable. The dining room is family friendly with no televisions (I enjoyed that as a Mom). The greeter was kind and we were seated quickly. There is a good selection of food/drinks and the menus are clean and nicely laid out.
This visit was with our birthday boy (11) as a special treat ~ the birthday club provided him a free meal from the kid's menu via snail mail that could be used any time in his birthday month. This isn't a huge deal since kids eat free on Sunday anyway but still a nice gesture. He ordered chicken strips and fries. It was a large portion and he says it tasted great. Nice presentation with all the sauces he needed brought on the plate. His desert of choice was worms and dirt which was delicious although he was too full to eat all of it (this is nearly unheard of with him!) It must have been the scrumptious warmed bread loaves with garlic butter (that butter is amazing) and the celery, carrots and dip we/he was served prior to our meals that did him in. That and he enjoyed the last bit of my to die for cream of potato with bacon/cheese/green onion soup.
Thursday's special was buy one get one half price steak. Although we've always ordered the yummy ribs when dining here, we decided to try the steak. My partner and I order the AAA 8oz steaks, his medium and mine well done. They were cooked perfectly, super juicy and very tasty. We weren't disappointed. The mashed garlic potatoes were great. Surprisingly to me the green beans were super impressive having been sauteed in a light sauce (garlic and butter I'm guessing). They were so fresh they tasted like they were just picked! I'm not usually a veggie side lover but I would order these again in a heartbeat.
We were so full by the time we were done I can't believe we decided to get dessert. The brownie with ice cream, whip cream and chocolate sauce was huge - more than enough to share. It was too good not to finish even though we could barely walk out after everything we ate.
Very importantly, our server Rich was very friendly yet professional. He was informative. His timing was excellent. He was on top of drink refills. Delightful mannerism with our son. We felt like we were important guests even though there were no shortage of guests in the restaurant. Rich's service truly stood out as above and beyond but we could see it appeared to be the normal around there.
The only thing I can think of that was even slightly disappointing is the price of the delicious gravy sides which seem a bit excessive at $2 a small dish. I'd rather pay $2 for good gravy than $1 for yucky stuff though. My son's tomato juice was $3.50 which again seems a bit much but it was a large glass and he/we appreciated that. The pops are approaching $3.50 a piece but being bottomless that's reasonable.
I think it's amazing the three of us ate a crazy good and filling steak meal for less than $70! Hopefully this honest and well deserved review gets back to Rich and the cooks so they know we enjoyed their pride and enthusiasm in their professions.
Highly recommended (I would even bring my picky Dad here, lol). We'll be back thanks to Rich and the...
Read moreTypically, every year for my birthday this is the restaurant we go to. This has been kind of a little tradition for me and my family. Even before this restaurant changed to its current name and it once was called Tony Roma’s. Attempting to repeat my great experience from last year, I made a reservation for my birthday again. The reservation was made for nine people. Upon arrival, we found The table setting where we were situated A bit awkward as the “ Reserved table” was actually divided between two separate tables. Which didn’t make it feel like a reservation. the previous year, we were Situated on the elevated level with the fireplace where we could all sit together at one table together, this time we were situated on the main level next to a window, which unfortunately let in a cold draft on the left side of the table and we had to scoot our tables together to get everyone together at one place.
Our server who I believe her name was Cassidy was absolutely lovely. I will say that the service from her was wonderful. She was friendly, professional, and attentive. The service from her was Something I appreciated from that evening. I believe everyone at a table, enjoyed the drinks that we had ordered and the appetizer which was the spinach and artichoke dip. It was delicious.
Unfortunately, I was disappointed with The main event of my meal. The last time I was there before yesterday evening for my. Birthday, I ordered a steak and it was cooked perfectly so I attempted to repeat that experience again last night. I ordered the 12 ounce New York strip loin with broccoli and the garlic mashed potatoes the broccoli and mashed potatoes I have absolutely no complaints about whatsoever, it was the steak I was disappointed with. I ordered it rare, and when I received it, it was definitely medium. When our lovely waitress ordered a new one for me and By the time I got my replacement it still came back more on the medium side than even a medium rare, And by that point, I wasn’t Going to send the steak back again, a second time. I did let our server know and showed her that it still wasn’t Cooked properly, but did didn’t send it back again. I do appreciate our Server doing everything she could in her power to fix the experience and for the apologies she Had made for the steak, even though it was not her fault. I think the thing that bothers me the most about The steak was the fact That receiving the second steak, it still wasn’t much of an improvement from the first one and to me, a steak is something I really do like to enjoy rare if it were any other type of meal, I would not have made any sort of fuss at all, but steak is my favourite and it was my birthday meal.
I really do appreciate that I ended up receiving a comp meal for that inconvenience, but in all honesty, I would’ve been more happy to pay full price for a meal with a steak done rare as i...
Read moreBefore diving into the review I should preface that our experience in of itself wasn’t bad, but rather disappointing.
My wife and I have had Eleven Sixty on our radar to try for quite a while and we finally had the opportunity to stop in for a lunch. Out the gate, the atmosphere is pleasant, if not confused. It seems to be wanting to portray high end dining, but also a grill house but the execution ends up with a somewhat cold and uninviting, characterless ambiance. Minor quibble that doesn’t fully impact the experience, but it was something that stood out to us.
For lunch, we started with their shareable fried onion mountain. If there is one positive take from dining here it would be portion sizes. This shareable by comparison to other restaurants truly is shareable in size. Perhaps too much for a party of two, but definitely a generous portion. In terms of flavour…there really wasn’t any? It was simply breaded/crusted fried onions with a generic chipotle ranch. Surprisingly bland.
I ended up with the onion burger but swapped the patty for their in house bean burger. Once again, portions are very generous. But that’s about the only praise to be had. The burger itself was bland and the patty was dry as hell. If there was a sauce on the sandwhich it was very sparsely applied. I had to ask for a side of the chipotle ranch. I also had to remove the onion has there were too many.
My wife had the Rueben. Once more, great serving portion. She was less than impressed with the sandwhich. She was also provided side sauces that looked like nothing more than generic ketchup and yellow mustard. This is when it really began to click this restaurant seems to have an identity crisis between nice dining or grill house.
The portions sizes, food quality, and generic sauces are all items you come to expect from roadside grills, not a nicer dining establishment.
Our server was pleasant enough, if not slightly socially nervous, but missed a lot of the typical service beats. She never came back to ask if we’d like drink refills, to check in on how the meal was going and essentially avoided our table the whole time we had food. We had to politely wave her down to request the chipotle ranch as she hadn’t came by at all.
To be fair to the restaurant they do have a much more expanded dinner menu that seemed to have a better array than their lunch menu. However, after this meal we likely won’t bother coming back to see if there are any differences in the food and service. For the price you pay (which is still a reasonable price) there are much better places to...
