Wanted to quickly share how disappointing my last experience at The Thompson House was. We arrived around 12:45 for lunch as a group of 4. There was only a small handful of other patrons in the building and most had already eaten, as plates were still on their tables.
We ordered 2 sandwiches, a burger, and the lamb stew and grabbed some beers. More patrons began to enter the restaurant over the next hour, none of which waited any longer than 20 minutes to receive their food. At 1:40 I finally asked our waitress where our meals were, and she responded by saying, “some food takes longer to prepare compared to others.” I politely asked if they could hurry as we had been there for nearly an hour. Not even 2 minutes later, we watched as the same waitress came out of the kitchen with a double cheeseburger and a Ruben sandwich for a couple who had been seated just 20 minutes prior. These were 2 of the items we ordered, and were included in the ones that I was told take “more time to cook.” At this point it was 1:55 and we asked for the bill, as we could not wait any longer for our food. This is when the waitress admitted that they had lost the ticket and were putting a rush on our food, in essence coming clean that she had lied that our food was just taking longer too cook.
The waitress came back with our bill and said the manager had removed 2 of the beers for the inconvenience. When we looked at the bill it still had all the food on it, and when we asked why this was the case, the waitress said they were packing our food up for us to take home. I explained that the point of eating in a restaurant for over an hour is to actually consume the meal that we ordered, not to bring it home and that we not only didn’t want to food any longer, but that we would not be paying for it. When she came back with our bill the 2 beers that were, “removed for the inconvenience” magically reappeared. We fully intended to buy all 4 of the beers, but found it not only rude of the manager/staff to include them again, but a bit cheap and tacky after originally removing them as an apology for their mistake. We politely paid the bill for the 4 beers and told the waitress, that these things do happen and that we hoped the rest of her shift went well.
We do not plan on returning to the Thompson House because of this issue, and are still a little amazed at the overall lack of problem solving skills exemplified by the manager. He did not even have the dignity to come out and apologize for the fact we had waited, at the point of paying for our meal, an hour and 15 minutes. To say that I have received better customer service and understanding from a fast food restaurant would be an understatement, as they at least take responsibility when an order is incorrect or try to make it right in some fashion.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and feel that we were not only “shrugged off” as a problem for asking where our food was, but also lied to when we inquired about the status of our order. Windsor has enough stand out restaurants throughout the city, and I would recommend anyone try another restaurant, even the local Burger King, before sitting down and expecting a pleasant experience at the Thompson House. If Google allowed me to give a “zero-star” rating I would, however I guess a 1-star review...
Read moreNot a good experience...once again! We keep going back over the past couple years but today we were reminded of why this is not our favorite place to dine. We ordered our drinks right away and proceeded to wait for a menu for quite sometime, as we were unaware that we had to download a bar code off the table to see a menu. AHH...NO..we want a real menu please ...Not this track and trace dining experience, thank you very much. We already had to sign in which is really against our privacy rights imo. Anyways, once the single paper menu FINALLY came,( we even had to share it) we ordered right away, because even on a good day, service is usually slow. Our appetizers took about 30 minutes to arrive and we were so glad we had ordered dinner at the same time because the people beside us, who arrived after us, ate and sat there with their doggie bags while we were still waiting for dinner. Also , since when does soup come on a plate with dinner and not before? We ordered waters right when dinner came...but the waters arrived after we were done eating. The appetizers and food in general was super expensive. It was always pricey but now since covid, it's a bit too much. I don't think we will be back anytime soon and too bad because it's close enough to walk to. We did voice our complaints to the waitress at the end of it all and she blamed it all on short staff. I am giving it a 1 star rating because the patio is nice... but maybe some piped in music would be something to...
Read more7 of us went for a birthday celebration. 3 out of 7 of us were disappointed with our meal. 2 of us complained as we had the same meal, it was the special of the day. I had the soup first, which was great, and then a breaded chicken sandwich that was over cooked and very thin so it was crunchy and very dry. We told the server who said there was nothing she could do because the manager had left for the day. She had no authorization to do anything about it. We weren’t offered another meal, and we both would’ve taken that because we could’ve brought it home since everyone else was done their meals. We both followed up with phone calls to the manager, and never had our calls returned. I finally talked to someone, after many attempts, and they said there was nothing they could do at that point. They wouldn’t even offer us a gift card for the cost of the meal so that we could come back and try something else. I don’t generally complain, especially during Covid as I understand the predicament the restaurants are in, but this was so poorly handled from start to finish that I can’t believe they didn’t want to rectify it. ‘My husband and I spent over $100 and would’ve happily returned to give it another try if they had tried to work something out with us. Needless to say, we won’t be...
