There are only a handful of restaurants in this area that achieve the level of those you might find in Montreal (or possibly Ottawa)-- the kind of restaurant you would take out-of-town guests to or celebrate a special occasion at-- and Thum's Kitchen is one of them. The warm, exotic decor sets the mood immediately as you enter, and you know you're in for a memorable dining experience. The lovely waitresses are friendly, attentive, and elegantly-attired, making you feel like royalty. The menu is extensive and varied, and helpfully includes photos of many of the items. You can choose from spicy Thai classics to milder entrees that are sure to appeal to anyone's taste. I highly recommend starting your meal with their "Thoong Thong" chicken spring roll wrap appetizer, served with a tangy sweet and sour sauce. And don't forget to save room for dessert, because Thum's offers some delicious options (I love the deep-fried banana spring rolls with ice cream!). Thum's owner is a classically-trained top chef from the tony restaurants of cosmopolitan Bangkok, and his culinary expertise is apparent in every dish. When you finish your meal, you too, like the Thais, will exclaim "aroi mak mak!" and vow to...
Read moreCame in on a whim for lunch on a Thursday, The place was packed, and did seem a bit understaffed. The decor was very nice in traditional Thai manner. The servers were dressed beautifully and are very gracious and friendly. After ordering we were given a small bowl of Tom Yom soup which was delicious. I like spicy hot, and this was spicy, but not overspiced. Just right. We ordered the Por Pia Sod (uncooked vegetarian spring rolls) and chicken Satay for appetizers. Wonderful portion sizes, and delicious appetizers. Thai basil was incorporated into the spring rools, giving them a refreshing taste. Service did not push us any drinks and we were happy with water. Don't see this too often nowadays. For a main course we had Pad Thai and Gaeng Dang (Red curry) Although I could have had more spice to the Gaeng Dang, it was nonetheless very delicious. The coconut curry base was amazing. The portions were well sized. My girlfriend could not finish her Pad Thai, and we took the rest home. A wonderful experience. Anyone looking to try authentic Thai food should check this delightful establishment out. We...
Read moreGreat service, price on point (in this economy, great price still) and hearty food. But, it's not gluten free.
I'm saying this for wheat allergist who are reading other reviews thinking they have entirely gluten free dish option. Just based on my reaction and knowledge of East Asian cuisine (like the oyster sauce and fish sauce ahem-has wheat as their base ingredients. You can ask them to take it out but making it taste like thai food after that...that's gonna be hard. Now it can be a marginal amount that it may be gluten-free but it may also not be) and I don't think they were using tamori sauce in replacement of soy sauce.
So a warning there to be careful on this and not claim it's gluten free for people with wheat allergy who might die based on the amount of wheat they consume. I debated whether or not to give literally 1 star or 5 star over this (since nobody ever reads 3-4 stars) but to support local business in current time, I decided 5 stars. I could be wrong in terms of how they cook it but, anyway, wheat allergist and gluten...
