This was my first time visiting Mad Radish, and my initial impression was positive—it’s clean and aesthetically pleasing, and I was greeted right away. However, the experience got a bit confusing when I tried to figure out where the line started. What I thought were three people being served were actually still waiting, so things seemed a little jumbled. I waited for them to order first since I was still deciding.
I had browsed the menu online but decided to see it in person. I went with the soup and sandwich option—coconut curry chowder and a peri peri chicken sandwich. The staff member called for the next person in line, and I placed my order. They mentioned they needed to heat the soup in the back, which seemed odd to me. I assumed the soup would be kept warm in a temperature-controlled container, like at places such as Farmboy, but perhaps it’s made to order and reheated.
Once the soup was ready, they started preparing my sandwich. I was a bit nervous when I saw the staff member cutting the bread with a large knife, as there was no safety guard, even though they wore gloves. I’d also noticed the guest ahead of me ordered the same sandwich, and the other staff member added a lot of cucumbers and slaw, which were weighed along with the chicken. When my sandwich was being made, I asked for no cucumbers and was hoping they’d offer more chicken for an additional charge, but they didn’t. I didn’t ask myself because I thought I’d be prompted to add more, like at places such as Chipotle. They also didn’t ask if I wanted to add other ingredients, like tomatoes or pickles, so I’m not sure if those are options. They added a large amount of greens—kale, spinach, and arugula—which I asked them to stop after the first handful.
When I reached the counter to pay, I noticed drinks and pastries, but I wasn’t offered either. I had to ask for a drink and the apple blossom pastry.
As for the meal, the sandwich was flavorful and spicy, though the focaccia bun was slightly stale. The soup was creamy and flavorful, but the full list of ingredients wasn’t available on the menu, and I didn’t realize it contained mushrooms and edamame beans—ingredients I’m not a fan of—until after I tasted it. That was more my oversight for not asking beforehand. The apple blossom pastry was delicious.
Overall, while the food had some great flavours, there were a few issues with the service and food preparation that could...
Read moreBy far the worst location. We are longtime customers from the Glebe location and were so excited when they came to Orleans. The disappointment is unreal. Everytime we have went to the store, it takes over 40 minutes every single time. It seems like every employee is there for the first time, they are so incompetent and slow. Dont even think about ordering online. The system is horrible. Cant substitute anything and then have to end up paying extra. They also will mess up your order. We ordered 2 burritos and 2 bowls, we ended up with 3 bowls and 1 burrito.
The order wait time is 15 minutes. You then have to wait 40 minutes in the store while they serve other customers very slowly and they haven’t even made your food yet. The customer service here has gotten so bad that people will turn around and walk out if 2 or more people are in line. Have tried to contact manager or owner many times and never successful. Sad to see such a great chain ruined by lack of management and...
Read moreThe service is terrible. This location is severely understaffed. There was only 1 employee working when I placed my order online on their website. When you order via their website, they say it will take 15 minutes to prepare the order. Yet it took 30 mins and the staff member got annoyed at me when I asked about my order saying they prioritize the people coming into the store. However, I also saw the employee prioritizing Uber Eats orders ahead of mine. Perhaps let people know that when they order online, since it would have been faster for me to order in person. It was only when I told the staff member that I had a child in the car is when they actually started preparing my order. Maybe hire more staff and have better organization. I come here regularly but I am considering taking my business elsewhere, since the service is terrible. The other mad radish locations are not this understaffed and...
