The one star is because of service. The owner literally stole me. When it was time to pay he didn't hand me my bill (we had pizza, salad, pop, ice cream). We ate outside at pic nic tables. I asked for it before I can key in the tip but it took so long I keyed in an approx amount. But when he handed me my bill it was all rounded amounts with no tax added up at the bottom. Medium special gluten free $27 Fatoush salad $16 2 ice cream $8 1 pop $2 Total $53
Now the problem is that nothing added up! Here are the prices on the menu that is posted on the plexiglass in front of cash:
$19.25 medium special +$4 gluten free $12.50 fatoush $1.25 pop (listed in their online menu - I didn't check price in restaurant) $2.75 we asked for small ice cream but he gave us a double scoop and charged us $4 (with tax) I didn't check the price inside so I didn't know the sizes and price. Now you do the math. So the owner, from others reviews, has a tendency to have a bad attitude and say: call the cops, well I think he is doing projection because he clearly showed dishonesty and he totally busted my bubble because I was enjoying my nice outing outside with my friend and the food (except the fatoush dressing tasted like vinegar instead of lemon). Ice cream was not really wow.
So I walked back in to ask him questions about my bill and he was defensive and it was not easy at all for me to stand up for my rights. I know now that he lies through is teeth because he said that because we ate there prices are 10 percent more of course! What? So I tried and tried to see how it added up but it never did. Wether I put 10 percent before or after tax. So insulting to be taken advantage of. I confronted him about that it didn't add up and that if there different prices we should be told when ordering. So at one point he said what do you want. And I said: given me the tip back. You over charged me. And he did.
Wow. I was so so disappointed and chocked by his ethics. I understood that he does business the way he feels like. So I really wonder how many walk-in customers gets ripped off like me.
Bottom line is, if you are so miserable that you don't follow ethics anymore, close the shop or have someone else trustworthy there so your business can continue flowing, and stay home and do admin only. But most of all find...
Read moreWow- and I don't mean that in a good way. We had been to this restaurant pre COVID and everything was great-food service etc. Ordered a med 1topping pizza sign says please add 15% to menu prices. Total with tax should have been $20.46 I said I would pay cash, owner opened the cash (without ringing up the sale) and said that will be $22.00 no receipt with tax was provided..hmmm. Asked for plates and cutlery, (which had been provided outdoors the last time) was given two minute styrofoam plates and tiny useless plastic utensils. When we asked for actual utensils we were told no- plastic only because I gave you the takeout price?? There is literally only one menu and was charged more anyway. Went back to speak to the owner and explained that our previous experience had been so much better. Owner became immediately combative now telling me no utensils were allowed on the patio as per City of Ottawa because of some previous altercation involving cutlery outside huh? Then he told me utensils were for indoor dining only so I asked why he didn't just say that in the first place. Needless to say he just kept talking over myself and my husband. I have never, as a customer been treated so badly, I think the owner is burnt out and needs to call it a day. Wish I had read the reviews first. All in all a terrible experience and on my husband's...
Read moreIt had been a long time since we went to Papa Sam's for ice cream so we thought it was time. It was nice to see that they had lots of outside tables that were spaced out well. I glanced at the menu that was just inside the door and informed my wife what I wanted before taking a seat with the dog at a picnic table.
Two moments later my wife and mother-in-law walked by and said "No ice cream". I was thrown off for sure. I was informed that when the server, ill call Papa Sam, went to scoop he didn't have a mask on, nor did he wear gloves, which for the record I don't care if gloves are used if their hands are washed. Hand washing was not seen.
My wife asked if he wore masks and Papa Sam replied "Sometimes", but continued to scoop. That is when my wife informed him that we would not be getting ice cream today. We wear masks, signs were posted to wear masks. Papa Sam did not so we left.
I will say, when we left Sam went to his car and got his mask. Times are tough but sometimes we make them harder on ourselves.
JoJo's down the street was awesome and they wore masks, and gloves.
I will give Papa Sam another chance, I just hope it will be a...
