We went there the other day when the patio opened up to celebrate my grandson's graduation . Previously I had only ever gone to Soul Stone for their tasting menu at lunch which I loved. This time though we had mixed reviews. The suishi appetizer was excellent and visually appealing. The pork egg rolls were very good also. The main dishes were mixed, the General Tao's chicken was good but had unspectacular vegetables on the side. Most disappointing was their Lemongrass Chicken which is supposed to be one of their signature dishes. The lemongrass was only faintly noticeable in a slimey flavourless sauce and veggies which other people have also commented on. The chicken was weirdly rubbery. I left half the food on my plate because it just wasn't that appealing. You'd better fix this. Worse yet though was the manner in which food was served, very quickly. We sat down and were asked for our food order within a few minutes, we asked the waitress to come back. Shortly after we ordered my appetizer and main course arrived at the table at the same time, no cutlery or napkin though, and not my grandson's food either. I sent the main dish back to keep it warm while we waited for my grandson's appetizer to arrive with instructions to keep back his main course back also until we were completed the starters...key word being starters. The waitress apologized and said she was new however the kitchen should have known not to send it out like this. Immediately after finishing our appetizers our main courses were brought out at the same time by the chefs. I felt very much like we were being rushed out. For $80 for two without drinks, you don't want to feel like you're in a fast food restaurant. You want to sit and talk and enjoy the company/food. The patio was not full and it was not closing time, there was no reason for this kind of rush at a restaurant charging these prices. This was a disappointing experience at one of my favourite Orleans restaurants. I'll put it down to a bad day and try it one more time but I'll never order the Lemongrass...
Read moreQuiet, cozy, good for family or date or colleagues. We entered and asked to see the menu as we were not certain if we wanted to eat here. As we were browsing through the menu the head chef came out to greet us and offered to explain anything that we might not be familiar with. Wow factor right off the top. We decided to sit down and enjoy a nice supper. Best decision we made today. The service was non-intrusive, quick and elegant. The food was fresh and delicious. We ordered wonton soup, which was superb and freshly made on-site. Miso soup, a lovely curry lemongrass coconut soup, all fresh and so tasty, and NOT salty. We then ordered sweet and sour chicken served with Jasmine rice pilaf and season vegetables. Shrimp tempura roll was incredible. We tried the Head Chef's Chirashi Sashimi platter - 20 PCs served over a bed of sushi rice, absolutely divine. Everything seemed to be better and better as the meal progressed. Dessert was fresh pecan cheesecake and a banana roll of sorts. Small, rich, decadent. very low sodium throughout all dishes. There is a reason why this delightful restaurant has been voted one of the best in the Ottawa region. Such care put into every dish. No stairs. Clean restrooms. Average cost per person between $30 - $45 for supper, very reasonable for the quality. Our experience was so pleasant, I would gladly rate this 6 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #localguide update. July 20, 2018 - brought a group with me this time....still outstanding quality and service. The head chef remembered me from my last visit, just over one year ago! Lunch this time around and what a surprise - $18 unlimited. I continue to be impressed by this gem. They should win an...
Read moreMy husband and I ordered Shrimp Pad Thai and two different types of sushi on Jan. 25th, 2022. The Pad Thai had barely any vegetables in it, just 4 strips of onion and 1 piece of celery but I could live with that, but what was gross was the shrimp as very overcooked and rubbery. The sushi was even worse. We got 2 different types of rolls as I was really craving sushi that night! The rolls were awful, tasted old, they were gummy and super chewy in texture. When I pulled the Spider roll apart to see why it was so flavorless except for the sauce they drizzle on top, I found that both pieces I pulled apart the crab part was hard and chewy type consistency and once I pulled the tempura part off it was just some type of skin substance, no recognizable soft shell crab. The Dynamite roll was bad too, no recognizable shrimp in the shrimp tempura and these rolls were also gummy, chewy and tasted old and dry! They put a ton of the crispy tempura bits and spicy mayo on top to cover the absolute garbage below. I have ordered from Soul Stone on St. Joseph before on Jan 2nd and food was good but after spending $70 on takeout food tonight I expected way more! I realize this is takeout food but it should have some standards. I've had way better grocery store sushi and frozen meals than this. We ended up throwing most of it out despite being...
