Poor service. Refused to remove an item that I had an issue with, after agreeing to remove the item. Then after lecturing about how theres nothing wrong with the dish it is my problem i dont like the raw item i ordered covered in marinade and spices that were not listed. She kept saying that's just the flavour. I can't do anything. I didnt eat more than 2 pieces and after she "spoke to her boss" then after asking 5 times who that is and where they are she said Im the boss then went back and said oh but i spoke to my husband and we agree we wont remove it because the item is fine.
I ordered the squid, and it came covered in cumin, apparently. She said I should have told her about any food sensitivities or allergies, and I said it's neither of those. It came out, and I hated how it tasted, I told her immediately. They took it back and brought it out again, still covered in cumin. She suggested sauces, and I said "yeah the cumin is too much and ruins it for me." I told her a few times through the dining experience I would not eat it, they took it back once and brought it back no dofferent and insisted We pay the 20$ for it. She kept trying to tell me how it works in restaurants and they can't replace a dish just because it isn't satisfactory. She fought with me for too long, repeating herself until and kept pushing that I take the squid home. I told her no log it into food waste, I will not bring it home or eat it at all. She refused and still charged us for the squid. It was exhausting unnecessary and ruined the entire experience. They sacrificed repeat customers over...
Read moreThe last time I was in Ottawa I ate at Takumi and it stayed i my mind for a year as a standout meal. This second visit did not disappoint. The restaurant has now expanded into the space next door, making it easier to get a table. The concept is similar to Korean BBQ, but this Chinese version from nearby Dongbei province has a wider variety of meats (including poultry and seafood) and sauces. One thing we learned by watching other diners last time is to grill a lot of meat at the same time rather than requiring individual diners to grill lone pieces to desired doneness for their wraps. Ask for extra plates for your cooked meats. We ordered marinated short ribs and the honey marinated duck slices. For the wraps I recommed ordering the perilla leaf which lends a lovely herbal note. We also had some thin pancakes, like the ones served with Peking duck. They provide complimentary dipping sauces (Japanese soy, a Chinese sesame paste similar to what's served with hot pot, a Korean influenced one with gochujang, a Mongolian cumin dry rub) and garnishes (thinly sliced raw jalapeno and garlic as well as cabbage and radish kimchees), We also ordered courgette, which is best cooked after a round of meat, so that the marinade lubricates the veggies. This was washed down with lime water and barley tea. A copious lunch for two (which could have been a more modest lunch for three) was CAD 75. I will definitely return next time I...
Read moreI've been here 2x so far. The first time it was on a quiet weekday evening so I guess the service was better and the chef was able to accommodate my dietary needs. I am allergic to honey and since their beef marinade contains honey, the chef was able to provide an alternative marinade. Was excited to take my sister there but the second time I went was on a Sunday and I guess it was too busy to be accommodating and whip up a new marinade. I understood that part but the service was not great. Their Chinese pancake wrap is easily the best thing aswell as their peanut sauce. I ordered the pickled cabbage which was not brought over. I had called over the server 2x to get a refill on the Chinese pancake wrap, and then I had to get up and tell the other server up at the counter for the 3rd time. So that was irritating. 2 servers during the weekend rush is not ideal. It is hard getting their attention, and they tend to prioritize and pay more attention to bigger parties. There was a table behind us that was a party of 4, and I noticed the server paid more attention to them vs. my party of 2. They had ordered refills at the same time as I provided a second reminder about the Chinese pancake wrap but the female server forgot my order but remembered the party of 4's order. I had to get up and mention it to the male server in the end. Anyways, that was off-putting, so I don't know if...
