Very disappointed ,, this was my go to restaurant for a great steak,, now it’s my “No-Go” restaurant. I was experiencing the same issues with the food quality just before Covid,, I order either Prime Rib or a Rib steak,, I stopped ordering Prime Rib a while back because there was always Grissle in the meat,, unless you are willing to sit in a nice restaurant and using your fingers to nibble the meat off the grissle, it’s ok,, but I go to the Keg for the experience,, so no finger foods. So I stick with my favourite steak,, the Rib Steak. And last night the first cut into Steak I could feel the knife cutting though grissle,, i only ate half the steak and brought the rest home for a breakfast, but i left about 20% of what did cut up on the plate due to grissle. My wife had the Fillet Mignon and it was fine as far as quality goes. My Rib Steak was ordered medium rare and was over cooked a little, it was still pink but not by much. My wife’s Fillet Mignon was ordered medium rare and came rare,, we were both “ok” with what we were given because we wanted to eat,, The service was one of the worst experiences. Our server talked to us like she was trying to sell us a used car. We requested regular butter because we weren’t sure about the cheese butter,, only one container of cheese butter came with the bread,, we had to ask again for the regular butter. (edit) I found out after I wrote this review that when I had asked for the butter we requested earlier that the waitress "rolled her eyes" as she turned around to leave. My wife ordered wine and requested it be served with dinner, we were half way through eating when the wine came to the table. The excuse was the bar was backed up,, didn’t believe it then and don’t believe it now. It got to the point we were talking about making sure we didn’t get charged for it. We requested to-go containers and that was the quickest service we received,, but she spun on her heals and left before we could ask for a desert menu,, we thought she would of asked us. After what seems like forever she came back to the table then we asked for a menu,, the wait was so long we just gave up and asked for the bill
This is not what I expect when I go to an upscale Steak House. It has Road House written all over it. Meat quality is not there,, I can buy better quality at a Butcher. I don’t think it’s triple A grade (AAA).
It was an anniversary dinner,, we were looking to just sit down and enjoy a nice dinner. We are now going to focus on other...
Read moreI'd like to start this off by saying I have been to over 12 kegs all over Ontario and B.C. and have never had a bad experience...until the other day at the new Stittsville location.
We were celebrating our 5-year anniversary and decided to go to the Keg down the street from us that just opened. Firstly, we were never asked if we were celebrating anything or if it was our first time there - they ALWAYS ask this at every location I've been to and we were looking forward to letting them know about our special occasion, also because they often offer you an ice cream cake at the end of your dinner which is a special treat and specific to the Keg experience. We got neither. That's fine. Issue #2: There was no one in the restaurant when we arrived early, around 5pm, and even though we were clearly on a romantic date (all dressed up, just the two of us) instead of offering us a free booth (we did have a reservation, they just didn't care) they sat us in the "family" section with all the kids. Again, we decided this was fine. We are laid-back people.
We ordered our food and a bottle of wine and tried to make the best of it. Issue #3: The poor lady beside us (and her purse) was drenched in a full beer from a server who quickly apologized and then left the woman to clean up herself and never came back. It took over TEN MINUTES for another staff member to help this poor woman or offer her even a napkin. The staff noticed there had been an accident, would point and giggle about it, and kept walking past her, thinking "not their problem". I felt so bad for her. She was clearly upset and my husband and I couldn't believe no one helped her until she had to get up and ask for it.....is this a keg or mcdonalds??
Despite the lack of customer service or know-how to live up to the keg's reputation, we STILL tried to ignore the red flags and enjoy ourselves. Issue #4: When our dinner came out, it was pathetic. It was the smallest steak I've ever seen, limp reheated green beans and one single red pepper piece on my plate. Seriously. I had to take a photo because I was so shocked.
Overall, the staff were not very friendly or capable, and it was a bad experience but my husband and I still managed to laugh most of it off and enjoy ourselves. We will simply go out of our way to visit another Keg in the future. We won't be returning...
Read moreTo be 100% honest to get me back into a Keg restaurant they would have to do much better than they did yesterday. The food prep was not good at all. The $67 filet I ordered (the other was $58) was to be medium rare it was more like medium well. Looking at the grill marks on the steak I would guess they are broiling them not grilling which is not good. I have no idea how anyone messes up a baked potato but somehow the kitchen was able to produce the "franken-potato" that tasted like it had been quadruple baked a week ago. It also had some kind of chemical after taste as if it had been microwaved in a plastic container that still lingered the day after and I made me feel ill before going to bed. The vegetables served with the meal had the same horrible chemical taste. When we were seated the hostess asked why we were dining out and asked if it was an occasion. When my wife said it was our 53rd anniversary she congratulated us and said there would be a complimentary dessert. The dessert never materialized nor was it ever offered to go. Quite frankly, I am almost relieved they didn't bring the dessert because who knows what kind of mess they would have made of it. Basically, what I had was arguably the worst steak dinner I have had in my life due to poor food prep and very mediocre and disconnected service. We paid almost $200 for a terrible dinner. I have dined in some very good steak houses (Ruth's Chris, Flemings, Mortons, Three Forks) and they were all good but this is not in the same class, not even close. I could have purchased an entire beef tenderloin at Costco and created 16 filet mignons for less than $200, grilled them myself on a BBQ properly and produced 1000% better results. Who can't cook a potato and do vegetable prep? An unskilled moron that's who. If these people really want to do themselves a huge solid they would find the person in charge of the kitchen and fire them immediately if not sooner. People who pay $200 for an anniversary dinner do not want...
