Some of the worst service I’ve ever experienced. I’ve been to both locations, and somehow, each visit was worse than the last. The Kanata location had rude staff and awful food. I paid maybe 30 smt dollars for the Iskender kebab and barely touched it. And I usually feel like I wouldn't mind that much if the restaurant has bad food but the service is great. Like it can't be both you know what I mean?
Now for this location, the food was really good. I was enjoying my meal until the middle of it. The waiter started taking stuff off our table. First, it was a plate that was basically done, which was fine. But then he took our bread basket and another dish that still had food. He asked if he could take it while I was chewing, so I shook my head no, but he took it anyway before I could even answer.
After that, he started being more communicative, probably because the manager talked to him. Even though I stayed calm, my face must’ve shown how upset I was. Then he took my fork, knife, plate—everything I needed to eat—while my food wasn’t even finished. He gave us a to-go box but no utensils. After I pointed out I had nothing to pack my food with, he finally brought one fork.
I asked for water a few times, but he was too busy clearing our table to hear me. Ironically, he did everything but bring us the bill. He also had the audacity to ask if we wanted dessert. We asked for the bill and water again, and finally got both. By then, I was even more pissed and just wanted to leave. When I went to the washroom, he was telling my friend it was hot today and making excuses.
I work at a restaurant myself, so I definitely understand, but his behavior was ridiculous. It felt like he was rushing us out even though we showed no signs of wanting to leave. I was still eating when he started taking everything.
Despite everything, I still left a 15% tip. But this experience was terrible, and I wouldn’t recommend this place. But funny enough, with all that happened, it’s still not as bad as the other location. So I hope that tells you all you...
Read moreMy wife and I are regulars at the Kanata restaurant, but we live literally a 5 minute walk from the new Bank Street location so we were excited to try it last weekend. We made a reservation for 2, arrived on time and waited less than 10 minutes to be seated. It's Ramadan, it's iftar, it's the weekend, so not an unexpected or unreasonable wait. We had a server we knew from Kanata, so he already knew our order: Lentil soup, kofte plate and iskender. The soup arrived first, we had to ask for some bread and then the gratuitous cacik and ezme was brought out. We asked to hold off on the mains until we finished with the soup and mezes, and the kofte came first, the iskender took a few minutes. Everything was delicious, the lentil soup was a little different than the Kanata version but still good.
I worked in restaurants for 15 years, I have seen and been involved in new location openings. This Bank Street location is good, there are experienced staff there and I see the new staff getting direction, but there are always some growing pains. I know the reservation situation frustrated some people, and that's a fair critique. By the time we went it seemed better managed. The food taste and quality was very close to what we experience in Kanata, and even if there were small variations, still good. The service was good, we were greeted warmly by the familiar faces and served cordially by the unfamiliar ones. I give this location 4 stars because it is still working out some new location hiccups, but only because of that, and I am confident those will be sorted in short order.
My wife and I WILL be back to this location (and occasionally visit the Kanata branch as well), God willing. We enjoyed their food, their service and our experience. Once they find their groove, I will be happy to bump...
Read moreI visited this restraunt with my family today like we always do every 2 weeks or so but today was really disappointing.
We were a family of 6 and therefore we ordered a lot of food, exactly 21 items including drinks. The server was polite and the food was great but at the end, we asked for take away boxes. The server then proceeded to give us around 7 boxes but then we see the manager and owner pointing to our table and saying stuff. When we asked for the check, they charged us for takeaway boxes without even telling us. The server was kind and tried to tell the manager and owner but then they didn’t care and they wanted us to pay. The price was only about $3 so I could pay it’s okay, but the problem here is that they didn’t tell us they were going to charge us. We demanded to speak to the owner but instead the manager came and told us we have to pay because we took too many boxes. We later asked the owner to come and he said people take advantage of the boxes and put them to waste even though we used our boxes very wisely and tried to stuff in as much as we could. Then the owner said it was store policy that we need to pay for more than 2 takeaway boxes. I wasn’t mad that they charged me but simply because they did not ask me or inform me before giving the boxes. We then said it’s okay we can pay for it but next time you should inform your customers about this “policy” but then he got mad and told us to leave without paying. We of course paid him later, but his actions were so childish.
Again, the food and server were great but the manager and owner are really unprofessional. We also tried to look for the policy on their website and menus but couldn’t...
