The food is good. Let’s get that out of the way. It’s well made and it’s pretty basic stuff. Eggs, bacon - the basic breakfast stuff. You really can’t screw it up.
Toast is actually just one piece of bread sliced in half. This was a downgrade from last year. At least give two as you’re pricing has gone up to accommodate inflation. The eggs are basic, small eggs. It’s fine. The bacon quality could be better, at times over done. To change from bacon to sausage, ham or peameal it’s ironically more money. I wonder about the grade of the bacon. Not a big deal again as its not going to break the bank.
So why the 2 stars? The service is awful. Someone at the top needs to go. You can’t blame the staff if they are mistreated. I’m guessing that’s why everyone is so miserable. No one wishes you good morning or even says hello. It’s right to your table without a smile. If you want coffee or tea look at your cups. Often they have lipstick on them or are dirty already. Come on - get this right. I’ve done over 100 reviews so far and this was the most disappointing and disgusting to date.
If you ask for milk or creamer it never comes. We asked multiple times and they huffed and puffed but never brought it. Our actual waitress who takes the order has been good. Much nicer and more accommodating. Cleans up after the mistakes the hostess or other people make.
Overall if it wasn’t so cheap as a hotel add on and convenience I’d pass. Do you want to make this right? Have the manager ask the guests how the service is every single day to each guest. Monitor what your staff is doing and don’t be operational yourself. Manage the people and the restaurant- don’t serve. Make sure your staff care and show that you care for them. Hire a more diverse staff because the last three years you haven’t.
If you’re the owner I hope you read this. You’ve got a full hotel every summer and your dinner service is empty. Your lunch is empty. Time for a change. If you’re best western , think of it this way. Would the other chain hotels allow this in their facility? Probably not. They do contribute to the...
Read moreWe came for my son’s birthday dinner tonight (Friday June 7th) he chose the restaurant. We waited a bit for our drinks while our server flirted with a man at the bar. We overheard her at an adjacent table apologizing for giving them the wrong dessert. When our meals came out, one order was completely wrong and another meal had the wrong sauce on our wings. Our waitress was too busy sampling different beers with the gentleman at the bar while another server corrected our order. When we asked for the bill we could hear our waitress with the man at the bar saying she can’t figure out her bills in order to cash out… too many drinks on the job? She then went on to collect plates from empty tables until realizing, oh ya, they want their bill. All while discussing plans for the rest of the night with the gentleman who should have been cut off.
As a server myself, dining out is hard for me to do because we expect to be treated the way we would give service to others. Sadly, this wasn’t what we got, and on a special occasion.
We also witnessed two separate people approach her about their food and bills and they were staying at the hotel.
I really hope you can find better staff that truly care about customer service. I will mention props to the young hostess who was very attentive with water to the tables, refills and...

Bishop’s Landing at the Best Western Inn on the Bay is an absolute gem in Owen Sound! From the moment we arrived, the stunning patio with its breathtaking views of Georgian Bay set the perfect tone for an unforgettable dining experience. The atmosphere is serene, the service is exceptional, and the food? Simply delicious! The menu is a delightful mix of fresh, creative dishes that cater to every palate. We indulged in their house-cut steaks and fresh fish, both cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The real standout, though, was the incredible selection of mocktails—each one was a masterpiece, beautifully crafted with vibrant flavors that made every sip a treat. Whether you’re a fan of something fruity or a little more sophisticated, their mocktails are a must-try! The staff, led by the wonderful team, were attentive, friendly, and made us feel right at home. The combination of delicious food, amazing mocktails, and that unbeatable view makes Bishop’s Landing the go-to spot for a memorable meal in Owen Sound. We can’t wait to return for another fantastic experience!...
