Good food, experience ruined by checkout. Looked for a place on the way back to Niagra Falls since we drove down for the day to go to Bruce Peninsula National Park and looked for a place to eat on the way back. Saw the boot and blade had great reviews so went out of the way to go eat there. They had a fantastic Georgian Bay Whitefish that was in season and our server was EXTREMELY pleasant and friendly. Loved the place up until checkout. We are from Texas and it was our first time to Canada so we did not know some places did not take US dollars. My husband and I have been to southern countries like Belize and they accept the US dollar. With that being said, since they are a neighboring country, my mom thought they might take US dollars. Our waitress told us the amount in Canadian dollars and my mom tried to pay with what she had left of Canadian dollars and US dollars. We weren't trying to be difficult, my mom just wanted to get rid of the Canadian money she had left and pay the rest with her US cash. So the waitress went to ask the owner if she could do that and the owner came out and said she wouldn't accept the two currencies. So we thought okay, we can just pay with the US money since we had more than enough in US currency to cover the whole bill. Then the owner proceeded to tell us that she would not accept US dollars because the US won't accept Canadian dollars........ummmm what?! So my mom asked if they took Discover cards and she said no....So that left us trying to figure out how we were going to pay for our meal when there were no signs on the exterior stating what cards were accepted. Luckily, my husband and I have a Visa that they accepted. I feel that there should have been signs stating currency accepted and what cards are accepted on the exterior or something since I feel it is a place where tourists frequent. Either way, great food, terrible service from the owner, we were extremely put off by the comments and will not be back again when we do...
Read moreGranted it was the last hour of their day this was collectively the worst food I have ever been served. Came here with 4 friends and we had a great time laughing at the awful quality of this food. Fish and chips tasted like opossum, potatoes like animal feed, chicken caesar wrap was grey, burger was served with triple toasted rye bread and the burger was more charcoal than meat. An hour for food too. Server was kind and enjoyed the people and atmosphere but this food was rank. The only palatable meal was simple things like chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks and wings which were all very average. Really wanted to like this place but you cannot serve that food. Gordon Ramsey needs to refine menu too, way too many options. Focus on a few and make it GOOD. Cheesecake because it was my birthday was very tasty however! Maybe this place has very good breakfasts but my experience...
Read moreWas going to eat in the restaurant on November 29th. Saw one of the staff not wearing a mask which is mandated as essential during the Covid-19 pandemic. I did not go into the restaurant and chose to leave. I am a nurse and work in the ER and I found this highly disturbing to see this. And it certainly does not violate human rights to have staff in a restaurant wear a mask. These people deal with the public and serve food and as a front line health care worker who has seen people die from Covid-19 this is highly disturbing to say the least. I will return and make sure I do not see the same staff person not wearing his mask. I have reported this incident to the public health unit in Grey Bruce/Owen Sound. This is a shame really since this restaurant serves delicious food. The owner and manager of the restaurant should know better than to let a server not...
