This expansive restaurant offers ample space, creating a comfortable environment for patrons to indulge in their culinary delights. The staff embodies a remarkable sense of hospitality, taking the time to guide diners through the diverse menu options, ensuring an informed and enjoyable dining experience.
What truly sets Okinawa Sushi apart is its commitment to catering to various dietary needs. The abundance of gluten-free choices is a true delight for those with dietary restrictions, while the extensive array of vegetarian options showcases the restaurant's dedication to inclusivity.
The swiftness of the service further contributes to the overall positive dining experience. The sushi chef's evident passion for his craft adds a special touch, as evidenced by the meticulous preparation of the maki rolls. Read moreExperience: I came to Futogenki with my mother and little brother, after seeing that Yummy Yummy was temporarily closed due to a fire. After going to our seats, we were not greeted by our server; instead, we were shortly asked for our drinks and that was all. No greeting, no welcome. After filling out our all you can eat card, we received our drinks. The first part of our order came in a frustratingly slow stream: every 5-10 mins, over a span of 40 minutes, we received one/two parts of our order. For the last couple of items in our order, we waited an additional 30 minutes as it would not come. We had to inform our server TWICE that we had not received the rest of our order. Once again, no apology. Finally, after being in the restaurant for over an hour, we got the last part of our order. We then ordered for a second time since we were all still hungry. As everyone around us received their entire orders in one platter, we waited once again. The food came in a similar fashion; one roll every 5-10 mins. Our server was not helpful and the language barrier was larger than any foreign cuisine I had ever been in. We were in the restaurant for 2 HOURS and saw the entire dinner rush pass from 5 PM to 7 PM, even though we had placed two orders with only 6-7 items each for 2 adults and a child.
Food: The maki/hand rolls were well done, but the deep fried rolls were mushy and bland.
Washrooms: Clean and functional, with nice decor.
Recommendation: Go to Yummy Yummy. Although the food at Futogenki is decent and washrooms are nice, the food at Yummy Yummy is equally good if not better and the service is way beyond what we experienced tonight, even...
Read moreDecent sushi for rural Ontario. The menu has a bunch of interesting choices that were fun to try. Spicy salmon sashimi served on a Pringle (yes, a chip) with some daikon was fun, as was asparagus wrapped in salmon, beef and green onions, and the makisushi options were pretty good too. White tuna is on the menu in a few places, white tuna isn’t usually tuna at all, just avoid it altogether.
Each menu item has a picture and a description so we didn’t have to question what we were ordering. What’s an Okinawa roll or a double fire roll? The menu tells you!
Service was not great. Some of the servers were kind and clearly trying to be hospitable. Others were too focused on their tasks to acknowledge our presence...while serving us at our table. That’s hard to do. One server asked if I wanted a drink, I took a moment to look at the menu, and she just walked away without saying anything. Later she brought me a root beer with a piece of tofu floating at the top. Honest mistake - but kind of yucky. When I mentioned it to another server it was taken care of (with kindness).
