I do not understand this place, the first time I came here I left without getting anything because Management had a really bad wait list system in that they weren't calling ppl written down on the list that had left as other customers were finishing up and getting ready to leave and there were multiple empty tables that needed to be cleaned up. I can understand part of it with it being busier that day, but still... fast forward a little over a month, we go in the mood for late night tea and stuff, we just ended up having flavored bagged tea at an honestly expensive price, but whatever, we saw they had a brunch menu and decided to give it a try with the place being Halal and we were trying to figure out where to go for a family breakfast the next day and wanted to try some place new. We had set a reservation for a large group... now I have not run an establishment, but my father has, and for a place that offers brunch options, you would think they would have a reasonable amount of staff to be there on a weekend to open the place and serve customers effectively. My family was a large group, so large that one of the only 2 employees working at the time they opened said that they cannot begin to take our order until 10:30 and will be prioritizing the 2-3 smaller parties of customers (honestly not a huge deal, the employees are trying to problem solve as best they can). We end up waiting to give our order until about 11, including coffee orders, we have been there since 10am. They took our order and now the wait for what turned out to be a dismal and lackluster meal. The mushroom and cheese omelet was smallish and oily, the "rustica" bread was a regular slice of white bread cut in half and was most certainly not worth the $5 extra to go with the omelet, the smoke salmon omelet was what really upset me, it was as if they made the omelet with 1 egg because it was very small and sad looking with 1 small slice of smoked salmon lodged in the middle (context the mushroom and cheese omelet was almost double in size), it looked very sad and did not have a cucumber ribbon at all. One of my family ordered a signature French toast, that claims to be made with brioche... the bread used most certainly was not brioche. The biggest kicker was that we had 2 young children with us and their food arrived last almost 40 minutes after we had ordered food!!! Small kids get hungry and quickly get frustrated when they are hungry, so prioritizing them first makes the more sense, but that did not happen. Everyone's mood was pretty much ruined, Management was nowhere to be found and more employees were starting to show up closer to 12pm. If this is the kind of food and service that is being offered, you should not be offering egg options, you are better off doing brunch stle sandwiches. There was another customer that was waiting for almost 40 minutes just to pay their bill, at no point did any of the staff take note to offer a refill on water or just leave 2 jugs of water on the table. This establishment is extremely poorly managed. If there were more staff there for opening shift and be allowed to prepare the kitchen a little before they open, things can be more manageable; in terms of the food, not great, I'm sure their desserts are nice and good, but I'm unlikely to give this place another chance if things are not likely to improve. Not worth the money in all honesty.
Honestly if you are going to use this as feedback to improve your services, then leave the review alone instead of deleting most of the critical and negative reviews that are dragging your rating down. These are serious issues that need to be addressed, if you want to prove and show that you have improved since the review make sure you do, I'm willing to give better reviews when...
Read moreI love coming across female-owned businesses, especially when the place is "instagrammable" and offers a great spot to hangout over dessert.
I've been seeing Dessert Lounge often on social media for a while now, so I was very excited to try it. It's easy to find the unit in the plaza as it stands out. The moment you step in, you almost won't feel like you're in Pickering. The interiors are beautiful - pink, florals and very comfy seating (plus the tables are well spaced out so you don't feel too close to other people).
The staff are also very friendly and welcome you with a warm welcome and smile. Menu is available online and a QR code is available at every table.
There's a lot of variety on the menu and a terrific selection, it almost makes it hard to choose what to get because everything sounds delicious.
Here's some of the items we ordered: • Masala Chai Latte ($7.25): what I loved is not only the taste with the hint of cinnamon, but the presentation was super cute. It came with a flower and two heart-shaped palmiers. • Milkshakes - French Cinnamon & Spiked ($9.95): the perfect drink to wake you up or if you're looking for the perfect hint of coffee. The lotus drink tasted exactly like a lotus biscuit so it made for the perfect dessert. • Signature Creations* - Choco Coco Crepe ($18.95) & Holiday Waffle ($19.95): I would've ordered waffles for both if I knew that the waffles would turn out to be my favourite. The batter was great abd the taste was even better. I loved the addition of the coconut shavings. The ice cream that came with the desserts were also of a very generous portion/scoop! I love having the option and the great balance between fruity and chocolatey dessert because I feel like most dessert shops focus more on chocolate desserts and don't offer the same kind of balance/variety. For someone who also doesn't usually like waffles, I wasn't expecting to love the waffles as much as the crepe so this was a sweet surprise. • Carrot Cake ($12.75): I didn't get to try it since I was quite full but when I brought it home, it finished quickly which tells me it was delicious. I chose carrot cake as it looked different to the other cakes I've seen and I loved seeing that it has a lot of almonds And now for my favourite item: the Strawberry Cheesecake Croffle ($13.95). Super soft and so good. It was the ultimate chef's kiss
Other items I'd like to try include: the cream rolls, saffron tea and the shiryakh (this is an Afghan own dessert shop, so they do have some authentic Afghani desserts too!) Items were really well presented. I'd prefer less powdered sugar but otherwise it...
Read moreAs a frequent patron of local businesses and an advocate for empowering women entrepreneurs, I was deeply disappointed by my recent experience at this place . Despite my regular visits, the lackluster service I received left much to be desired.
From the moment I walked in, it was evident that customer service was not a priority. The owner and staff seemed disinterested and inattentive, failing to greet or acknowledge my presence for an uncomfortably long time.
Throughout the meal, there was a noticeable lack of attention from the servers cum owner simple inquiries about the menu were brushed off with minimal effort. It felt as though my presence as a customer was inconsequential to the owner and staff.
To make matters worse, when it came time to settle the bill, I encountered a shocking display of incompetence. Upon presenting a $100 bill, it was scrutinized as if it were counterfeit, and I was informed that the this cafe did not accept cash due to a lack of funds in the till. This excuse not only demonstrated poor management but also left me feeling embarrassed and disrespected.
As someone who believes in supporting local businesses, especially those that champion women entrepreneurs, I expected better treatment from the restaurant owner. Unfortunately, my experience fell far short of my expectations.
In conclusion, I still do recommend this place as owner is young and but still needs to improve the attitude, loyalty, and payment policies and I owe an appology...
