EDIT:
Needed to edit my review after most recent visit. I am a vegetarian and have been going to Melina’s for years. When I first started coming I asked about how the food was cooked and they said the food was made on the same flattop, but I should not worry as there is there is no meat contact with any of the other foods. I even continued to note this just in case on numerous visits but was always assured that no contact occurs between the meats and other foods (not told they were making any special exceptions, but that it does not happen). On my visit today (June 6, 2022) I found a strip of bacon, not a small piece, it was about half a strip which I should have taken a picture of, in my hash browns. I do understand mistakes happen, but it was the response that was most uncomfortable for me. I notified my waitress and explained that I was a vegetarian and she responded “you should have told me then” my partner then attempted to explain that I had questioned on numerous occasions and was always assured that there is no contact and her response was then “how am I expected to remember you”, but as I mentioned earlier they made no previous impression that they were making any special exceptions, otherwise I would have notified her, obviously not expecting them to remember me. Unfortunately I have not had this experience at other establishments despite being a vegetarian for 9 years and Its not typically necessary to ask that something which is not listed as an ingredient be excluded from my food. Regardless, I would just expect a better response or even in a more kind tone. She did end up asking if I wanted something else but she already made me uncomfortable and I had lost my appetite.
ORIGINAL POST: Melina’s is always great. Cheap prices for the classic breakfast and big portions. Has been my go-to breakfast place for the last 3 years and the food never disappoints. I’ll definitely be back again and again.
Only downfall is they only take cash, they have an atm but there’s a fee of...
Read moreFound this little gem in Port Colborne while we were looking to take my sister-in-law out for lunch on Labour Day. What a delight. Our server, Hailey, was just great. When asked, what were some of the more popular dishes, she said that pretty much everything on the menu was delicious! My sister-in-law and I ordered the eggs Benny and my husband ordered the turkey club. My dish came with the most delicious home fries with just the right amount of fried onions. Simply delightful! The Hollandaise sauce sure didn’t come out of a package. It was delicious. And….the eggs were perfection! Just oozed out when cut…..mmmmmmm. My husband’s turkey club was all dark meat, which he asked for, and it was straight off the turkey. No processed meat at this restaurant!!! His sandwich was moist and delicious! His fries were fresh cut, and boy, were they tasty. I didn’t mention the prices. Could not believe our eyes when we looked at the prices of meals. So incredibly reasonable! Like diner prices. They only take cash, but there is an ATM in the restaurant, so don’t worry if you don’t carry any cash. If you want a great meal, fantastic pricing and entertaining staff, Melina’s is the place to go. You will not be disappointed. As good as mom’s……trust me. And…ask for Hailey. She’s just...
Read moreVisited recently, ordered two eggs sunny side up, with sausage and home fries, as well as toast.
Toast was good, sausage was good but the whites of my eggs were still very runny and clear (I'm not picky but even this was too under done for my liking) Home fries were completely white, no colour at all and the potato was under cooked. Almost as if they forgot to place them either in the fryer, flat top, or oven (not exactly sure how they finish them off to order) but I see other people's photos and their home fries look awesome, nice and crispy golden brown, as I have previously received. I can assure you they did not come like that this time.
We are never ones to complain or send food back, which probably isn't good because they should be held to a particular standard by their patrons, but we definitely should have sent our orders back. It was busy and we didn't want to be a bother.
The servers were friendly and attentive, but I am surprised they looked at our plates and did not see anything wrong...
Portions are always huge, especially for around $8.00, which is really good value.
Very disappointed in the food as I've been visiting for 10+ years and I've never experienced a breakfast this poor before. Really hoping this was...
