nax'id' Pub — Restaurant in Port Hardy

I have been extremely happy with Nax’id in the past, my go-to is and has always been the bannock taco, the previous times I have ordered it has been a good sized portion, a nice fluffy piece of bannock, loaded with all the toppings, add the nax’id fries on the side with garlic aioli and it is the perfect meal. However, tonight I ordered the bannock taco and it was sad, when I opened the box I barely noticed if there was bannock in there, the portion size has dropped significantly and the bannock is more like a poorly fried pancake, toppings were scarce, the fries were not nicely seasoned as before and the garlic aioli was to be honest…mayo…I understand inflation and the need to be cost effective but the bannock situation is just sad - hardly a bannock taco at all. The beef tasted like old chili meat, the bannock was hard and very tough…I don’t know if I’ll chance it again, I pride myself on supporting local but this makes it very difficult. I love supporting Nax’id because of the culture and the locally sourced ingredients but it’s becoming mainstream and losing its cultural touch. Anybody who knows a true bannock taco would be...

Disappointing experience here. Service almost non-existent right off the bat, had to constantly try to flag our server down, who mostly just stared at the floor and avoided eye contact with anyone around her. Received my fish raw in the middle. Had it taken away once I finally managed to get the server’s attention and the replacement did not arrive until 45 minutes later, and only after I flagged down the server and flat out asked if I was ever going to get any food again. My companion was done eating by then so then I had to eat alone with her watching me. The food was bland, the fish was now completely dry to presumably compensate for not cooking it thoroughly the first time, and the meal was definitely not worth the money. Did not receive any discount or any offer of compensation for the ruined meal, just a machine with a minimum suggested tip of 18% for I don’t know what. I can’t think of a single other time in my entire life that I’ve been served food that was frozen and raw in the middle at a restaurant. Visited here Monday evening after reading great reviews. It was busy, and we understood it would take a while, that was ok…..but we waited more than 1/2 hour to be seated in spite of some empty tables. Our waitress was lovely, took our order and brought our drinks in a reasonable time. But the wait for our dinner was crazy, about an hour or more. The food seemed to be coming out sporadically, some tables receiving only some of their food, the rest coming later. People that were seated after us got their order first and some seated before us were still waiting. Crazy! Never had such an experience before. We were ready to walk out when the food finally showed up. Felt sorry for the waitress. Utter chaos. My ‘chowder’ was lousy, not fishy, seemed watered down and lukewarm.
