Miller's — Restaurant in Port Hawkesbury

We went as a group of 6. Myself, my wife, 2 kids (4 and almost 3) and my kids Aunt and Uncle. We're all under 40 and love good food. My wife and I rarely get out for a meal and were hoping for a great experience .... we were totally surprised and blown away!!! Millers is a fantastic place in PHK ... kind of hidden behind a very well maintained hotel. Parking is around back of the hotel, in a separate parking lot from the hotel, which is great. There is a well laid out patio and 2 well marked entrances. We were greeted with multiple seating options for our group. We chose a HUGE booth style table that was well lit, comfortable and super fun for the kids (older kids too:) As a group we ordered fish and chips, Nachos, Salmon burger, steak and for the kids a pizza with fries. Sounds simple but no .. we were all crazy happy and beyond enjoyed our meals. The fish & chips (mine) were amazing. Battered well, flavour was perfect, fresh oil for sure. The fries ... BEST I've had in a damn while. Flat homestyle with a great fry and temperature. My wife got the Nachos ... but wait .. they weren't just reg ol chips ... Deep fried won tons! ... read it again and drool! She said that it was amazing. Chicken was done perfectly, the melt was great and the veg were not overpowering. My two monsters had pizza and the rockstar fries ... one ate all the pizza, one ate all the fries ... so SUCCESS!! My kids Aunt and Uncle had an amazing salmon burger/fry plate and steak and fry plate respectively that both looked incredible... Well to begin with another business establishment gave a recommendation. So being from out of town we gave it a try. Our mistake. Took over an hour to be served. The food was yet another issue all together. Being they use the word Chophouse in their name you would expect a decent cut of meat and that it would be cooked correctly. Not the case. Asked for medium rare and got well done and the cut was a joke. In my past travels to Canada I have been served a good steak. What I was given should have been used on a sandwich. The potato that was on the plate was so over done and dried out that it should have never left the kitchen. The waitress was also a fail. The only thing my wife inquired about was how much longer would our meals would be after over a hour of waiting. The waitress did pick up on the fact that nothing was was well with our experience and gave a large discount on the meal without being asked. The blame was placed on the kitchen staff being short staffed. This would have been better off left unsaid because the waitress also fell way short. Reviews are meant to be helpful but honest so an establishment can provide the level of service or goods that they desire. While searching for a decent place in PH, we decided on this restaurant as it had some decent options for vegetarians and vegans.

The entry is behind a motel and is still part of the motel as you enter the doors. We were greeted promptly and a table was available even though it seemed it was busy and packed.

When we were presented with menu, it was different than we saw online. When asked were told that they were in a midst of menu change! This meant we had limited choice. Also we were told that many of the dishes were not available as they were not properly stocked because of the menu changes.

Quickly settled on Vegetarian Papalote - a single baked phyllo sheet and within it vegetables and cheese and a white sauce. What we were not aware was that this rested on a bed of rice. The vegetables nice cooked and not too cheesy and just the right amount of sauce. The rice a bit dry. Also ordered a Salad with pumpkin seeds and house vinaigrette. The salad leaves not as crispy as I would have liked. The dressing perfect and the seeds added a good crunch. Also ordered a French Fry. The fries were top notch.
