Papa's Pub & Eatery — Restaurant in Port Hawkesbury

The food has always been above avg, and excellent for NS. The fresh digby clams have been the best in NS. And we typically get them wherever we go. They are definitely bigger and have a better coating.

The only reason I won't give it a 5 star is because of service and prices. The clams used to be about $17. They are now $25. Then $3 to upgrade to sweet potatoe fries. We're getting to the point where for a little more, we might as well get fine dining.

As for service, depends on who you get. The younger staff are typically happy and helpful. The older one... Well, prepare yourself for huffs, eye rolling, attitude if you have more than 4 people, if any are kids, and you'd be lucky if she isn't blunt and annoyed to take your order. She not brutal, but enough to ask why should I yup this person a dime. We go out to eat because we want to have a nice date night or family meal away from the stresses in life. I shouldn't feel like my business is a PITA to a waitress.

In any case, if you're in Port hawksberry and want some if the, if not the best clams in NS, this is the place to go.

Atmosphere, it's nicer than a lot of restaurants in the province outside of Halifax, but nothing special either. It's clean and the slit machines are completely segregated and really can't be...

TO BE AVIODED!!! We were looking for something to eat and based on the recommendations of some locals we ended up in Papa's Pub. We sat down, and waited and waited and waited for the server to come and take our order. She finally came,and we ordered two beer which arrived promptly. Then we ordered the food (burger, and a steak) and some water. After 10mins the water still had not come, and we asked again for the water, which she then brought. We waited for 30mins and then asked about the status of our food. She checked with the kitchen, and told us that they had not even started cook our food! At that point we got up and prepared to leave. We paid for the beer (we should just have l ft, but we are honest people), and the waitress got "fresh" and said that they had a large table in the back (birthday party?) and that's why they could not serve us faster. We demanded to speak to the manager but were told in a very impolite way that he was not present. We left and went to Tim Hortons where we should have gone in the first place. Summary: Bad service, impolite waitress!!! Do yourself a favor and avoid...

My company has a bi weekly company lunch to both support our local economy and for team building purposes. We made a reservation at Papa's Pub and upon arriving for our reservation were told by someone who didn't take the reservation that they didn't take reservations..........but then another waitress came over and said she knew about the reservation and allowed us in. We ended up being one person over the number we reserved for and asked if we could rearrange tables and the waitress was seemingly annoyed at the request and belligerent to one of our co-owners. There was maybe 3 other groups in the restaurant and maybe a couple dozen tables, so we thought it was a reasonable request considering how many empty tables there were and we were the only group in the back section, so we would not have been in the way. For lack of other accommodations we stayed, but will have our bi weekly lunch elsewhere...
