Chicken Chef — Restaurant in Portage la Prairie

Stopped at this gem of a restaurant while driving back to Alberta. After all day of driving we were looking for something close to home cooked but still take out to keep traveling. Well, what a great restaurant this was to chose. We got way more than we expected! We ordered one 2 piece chicken meal and a clubhouse combo and we did not expect the price to be so cheap as it was or to get so much as we did, they also top out your take out box with french fries, AND they give you two sides per order... I was shocked! Every restaurant should do that. The only complain that came from my husband was that he didn't listen to the nice lady who took our order and up sized his order to a three piece meal. Honestly I'm glad I don't live in this sweet town because I'd be there all the time. Everyone should bypass everything else and go straight to the chicken chef! It is said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If this is something that you agree with, then check out this location in Portage la Prairie. My guest and I both ordered the same breakfast special with our own variances of how the eggs and toast were to be prepared. The food arrived in a reasonably acceptable time and was served hot. The coffee was the main selling point for me. I've eaten at many restaurants and typically find that most will claim that "they" have the best coffee. (This includes McDonald's, Tim Hortons, etc) Sadly, I cannot agree with their sentiment. Coffee should be drunk black. When I'm visiting a café or eatery, I will have cream and sugar available, should the coffee fail to meet my standards. Worst experience ever!! I always eat here ordering out for delivery or pickup and of course i get food poisoning from the Cesar Salad!!! I ate on April 23 2025 then 3AM very early morning of April 24th i started throwing up over 100 TIMES!! i had to get sent home from work due to me being so sick i went to the Doctor told him what i ate and everything got to take medications and if it doesn’t stop by Wednesday then ill be admitted into the hospital on IV!!! All because of this place!!!
