Dick's Cafe — Restaurant in Portage la Prairie

Finally introduced someone to this amazing place. Asked how they get the batter so perfect every time. We were told it's home made recipe. Whatever it is, it's perfect. We like to try new places and this was by far the best choice. I googled diner while in portage la prairie craving onion rings and this came up. It was meant to be. Lemon chicken is amazing. Everything is amazing. Even stir fried rice that i don't usually bother with was very good. A meal in itself. Most have too much breading but not here. It's perfect and presentation was beautiful. Not greasy either. Perfect. We don't live in portage but have decided it will be a monthly trip. Going back tomorrow....

If you are looking for Chinese food in Portage La Prairie, this is an excellent choice. Locals recommended this restaurant to me, and it did not disappoint. Food is tasty, well prepared and reasonably priced. I have enjoyed both the take out and eat in options at this restaurant. The ambience is very retro. The restaurant itself is authenticate back to its roots. The Memories of Portage Facebook has pictures of Dick’s back in the 60’s (courtesy of Charlie Brennan) and the restaurant is almost unchanged. I had chow mien special and it was great. Lots of shrimp, beef chicken in it and so fresh. Asked for hot sauce and what a surprise, It was not from a bottle but made by the cook because I asked what brand it was and I was told it was made by the cook. They should sell it on the side. It was hot and lots of other flavours in it. Wife had wonton soup and it was good she said. Meal came with steamed rice . Surprise that it was not an extra. All in all was very satisfying.
