This is the second time I have eaten at this establishment. The first time was last July and I ordered a very underwhelming serving of the stingiest borscht soup that I’ve ever eaten! It was basically a broth with a few shreds of beetroot in it!! I decided to give it another try a few Saturdays ago with a friend. It was after 2:00 pm and we were the only customers there (understandable as it wasn’t exactly lunchtime). We were seated in the Blue Room which quite frankly reminded me of a funeral parlour from an old black and white Western movie. There were two large porcelain dolls “staring” at us through their blue feathered hats throughout our ordeal. Shades of the horror movie: “Chucky!” We were asked if we would like to order an alcoholic or non alcoholic drink with a bit of a not so subtle nudge to have alcohol. I decided on a soda water with lime slices and my friend just had water. Once the drinks were served we both ordered. My friend decided on an egg salad bun and I asked for a tuna salad bun; only to be told there was no tuna today. Perhaps I could have been told this when I was presented with the grimy, laminated menu? I decided to have egg salad also. As the proprietor left the “Blue Room” the phone rang and she answered it, and then proceeded to talk on speaker phone loudly to a man discussing some upcoming catering. The call lasted fifteen minutes, and we couldn’t help but hear every detail. I asked my friend how long she was prepared to wait? We decided to give her five more minutes before leaving money to cover my soda and exiting the building. She ended her call within the five minutes and then went to the kitchen. I was thinking to myself that I hoped she would wash her hands before preparing our sandwiches! After another wait the two egg salad buns were presented cut in half with absolutely no garnishes such as a pickle slice or a piece of parsley!! We had to ask for napkins and she found a couple of cloth ones laying on a side table nearby. We both bit into ours buns and after swallowing a bite we looked at each other and grimaced! There was no seasonings in the salad at all! No paprika, no finely diced green onion tops only egg and a very bland mayonnaise. We both reached for the salt and pepper shakers instantly and applied S & P generously to give it some flavour. Once we were finished we paid and got out of there as quickly as we could. I know that I’ll never...
Read moreThis place was gorgeous! I love the decor, architecture and design. While I will admit it was a bit dusty, it was adorable and me and my mom purchased a tea cup set, one of the many set up around the rooms. Food was delicious, I really enjoyed the grilled cheese and the carrot cake me and my mom shared was a 10/10! I do believe almost everything is home made. Customer service was lovely, very talkative staff and they even showed us some pictures of the renovation process of the building! Definitely...
Read moreDined here so many times. My last visit was the valentines' day brunch and we got the pleasure of the "blue room", where we were made to feel so royal. This place never disappoints with FLAVOUR sipping through every meal. Their carrot cake, fresh herbed bread and even Brussel sprouts are a must-have to go. I highly recommend this if you are looking for a great meal within a reasonable...
