Quick Notes: Tuesday Dinnertime Take-Out Called Ahead First Time Ordering Ordered: Singapore Style Fried Vermicelli and Fried Flat Noodle with Beef Tasty, Clean, Flavourful, Good Portions (lots of meat/shrimp in the noodles)
Long Story: I have eaten and will continue to eat a lot of Chinese food. Having recently moved from Toronto, one of my first tasks was to locate some good Chinese Food places. Now I am a big Hakka eater, but unfortunately there aren't any Hakka places in the area, so I look for places with a lot of chilis beside the menu items.
Taishan Gardens seemed questionable at first. Mixed reviews online, no website, a blurry menu on Google with no visible chilis, but the claim of being voted #1 Chinese Food for the past 17 Years, the fact it was close to my house, and the reviews that praised TG as worth travelling from Cobourg for convinced me to take a leap and give it a chance.
While staring at the blurry menu photo I picked up the phone to dial. The person that took my order wasn't the most knowledgeable but he was polite, easy to understand, and took my order without issue. Arriving at TG, the front door posted a notice of a price increase to the buffet. I believe $8.95 for Lunch, and $10.95 for Supper. Opening the interior door into the dining room, a familiar smell greeted me, reminding me of tasty Chinese food I've had at other establishments. It's funny how much smell is tied to taste and memory, but as soon as it hit my nostrils, I was reassured that at the very least, it wouldn't be bad. I provided my phone number, paid cash, picked up my grub and headed home.
The Foods: Both noodle dishes were good, not the greatest I've ever had, but not far off, and at these prices it is a decent value. Fried Flat Noodle with Beef: Clean tasting, lots of beef, cooked well, straightforward but could have had more to it Singapore Style Fried Vermicelli: Very good, clean tasting, lots of shrimp, cooked well, very tasty, well seasoned
Overall: I was pleasantly surprised, very satisfied, and will certainly return. Worth...
Read moreWe have been ordering from you guys since I could remember. With my mom Kathy Morin, and even now with my own family. Today is the first time ever we've had something to complain about. We were disrespected. And told that they would not deal with us as customers. We tried to offer different solutions and just pure rudeness.
My fiance and his buddy, decided to order Chinese for us (buddy's wife, and myself and the 5 kids) I was already outside and a driver showed up. I called my fiance to ask him if he ordered food he said yes not even 10mins ago. He was told 45mins, driver had food at our place at 15mins. Which normally is awesome timing! However it didnt work out quite well, my man was about 5mins late, and he called to get it sent back to us. I even told the driver I was so sorry, I had no idea.. and even offered to tip him more when he came back.
All in all, 5 starving kids, Harvey's is getting our business. Probably not gonna come back, up for debate...
Read moreTerrible costumer service. I called and asked if they had delivery which they said yes but would only be ready at 8pm, mind you we called at 4:30pm, I was very polite and said yes it's very understandable especially because its new years eve so we went on and placed out order for a family of 10. We spent our night playing card games and having fun until 8pm roamed by and we decided to give them a call and asked if our order was ready and they proceeded to tell us that we called back and cancelled our order, which we never did, and went on by saying no we forgot we called back and cancelled and started arguing with us. Im very upset with this costumer service because at first they were very nice with us but as soon as we called back everything turned. They blamed everything on us as we were waiting patiently for 4 hours for our new years eve supper. We decided to cancel our order and proceeded to be very...
