Blue Dragon Fine Thai & Cambodian Cuisine — Restaurant in Red Deer

This was our first visit to the Blue Orchid and we will definitely come back again. It's is a small family run place but there were several people dining in and quite a few take out orders picked up while we were there. Service was friendly. We started with the Thai salad rolls. They had chicken and shrimp inside. The peanut sauce that came with them was really delicious. I had the Cambodian stir fry. The sauce was spicy with layers of flavor. The green beans were still crunchy and there was lots of chicken. The portion size was just right. My partner ordered the dragon bowl which comes with a spicy vinaigrette. (Written after second visit) This is a hidden gem in Red Deer! Our first visit was in-house. It was Friday evening and packed, so we were glad we made a reservation. On this particular night there was only one employee serving and let me tell you… this woman has amazing work ethic! She was taking orders, filling drinks, bringing food out and back all with a genuine smile, calmly and in a timely manner. We were very impressed with her service skills. The food arrived hot, fresh and tasted delicious. Kudos to the chef. Our second time was pick-up (we ordered the same things to see if they are consistent with meals). The dishes we had were all very tasty and piping hot fresh from the kitchen. We had the dinner for two for $44. It includes 4x spring rolls, soup and 2 entrees. The spring rolls were nice and crispy but I think the sauce could have been spicier. We had the Tom Yum soup which was excellent it had enoki and oyster mushrooms, lemongrass, shrimp and ginger. Thai styled noodles (pad thai) and green curry chicken. We said for the curry to be spicy but it could have been even more so. We also had the salad rolls and they were good sized and came with a coconut peanut sauce with a bit of bite but again we would have liked it to be a bit spicier. All in all a great meal!
