Mediterranean Lava Grill — Restaurant in Red Deer

Piping hot even after bringing it home. The wrap is a perfect flaky texture, the chicken is impeccably flavored. The garlic sauce is noticeable but doesn't overpower. Veggies are fresh and crisp. This is the perfect shawarma. But enough about the food. Let me tell you about the dude. I got there just before close (I know, I'm THAT customer) and was greeted warmly and with a genuine smile. (I'll tell you how I know it was genuine in a bit) the guy then asked how my day was, and I decided to be honest and tell him it was a bad day. He then shocked me when he asked WHY it was bad. Nobody ever asks that! And when I told him why, he actually listened and gave advice, like he had known me for years. Before I left I let it slip that it was my first time eating there and he INSISTED I take the first bite right there. This guy wanted to see the joy it brought me because he loves what he does. We don’t live in Red Deer and weren’t sure of many halal options in the city. We were hesitant to eat here at first but then decided to give it a try. It’s not a typical, brightly lit restaurant but I guess that’s because most people order take out or delivery. We had the chicken souvlaki platter, steak platter and chicken wings. The chicken was very flavourful, not dry at all and the steak, again very flavourful; was cooked to perfection. The food was absolutely fresh, delicious and cooked to perfection. Their garlic potatoes are delicious, too! The staff is welcoming and helpful. I would eat here again if I’m in Red Deer again. Don’t be deceived by the appearance of the restaurant. This place was so great! All of the food was fresh and made from scratch. The freshly chopped veggies all looked delicious. The salad was fresh and light. The hummus was perfect. The tzatziki was delicious....again, all from scratch. The shawarma meat was all made in house....no dry donair meat hanging there. I had the chicken shawarma platter and everything was so good. The potatoes were perfectly seasoned. The serving was huge! We were given a complimentary piece of baklava and it was the best I have tasted. The couple who run the restaurant were both lovely.
