Have been to this Keg many times, this is the first time we have had to send both steaks back to the kitchen for not being cooked as ordered. One steak was very over-done, and the other rare (both had been ordered med-rare). While they were very apologetic, the fact the steaks even left the kitchen like that leads me to believe they were hoping they would have a customer not complain and just go with it.
Our server, although very friendly was not around; we sat for quite some time with empty water glasses, she was nowhere to be seen, although there were ample staff milling around no-one offering to top water up.
I watched a server/ helper about to deliver bread to a table and drop a dish of butter in the middle of the floor right behind our table, she simply walked away and left it there. Another server walked by, saw it on the carpet and kept walking on. It was a good 10 -15 minutes if not longer before a buss person came along and cleaned it up, which was a bit shocking since someone could have easy stepped in it and hit the floor. I honestly, was about to get out of my seat to pick it up myself. I can't really see why the girl that dropped it didn't simply pick it up right away and head back into the kitchen for a new serving of bread and butter. It has a mentality of "not my job" regardless of what consequences may arise.
Honestly, this is the first time I really have anything negative to say, maybe slow neglectful service on another occasion, but typically the Keg is our go to for a nice steak dinner, and we do expect quality and good service when you are dropping $200 for a meal for 2 people.
Maybe, it was an off day, they were quite busy for 4:30PM on a Saturday, which is unusual (we always book early to avoid such situations), however, they knew what reservations they had, the food quality (at first) and service was somewhat lacking. We will be back, but I hope management will take these comments and use them to coach staff...
Read moreI’ve been a Keg fan since they had salad bars - for those who remember those days. I wanted to treat my family of 6 for a special Father’s Day dinner, knowing I would be spending $$$$. I could have bought groceries for 2 weeks- so for us it was special. I booked a week in advance so we would have a spot & a nice table in the dining room. When we arrived I was told it was first seating available for reservations - the lounge. The music was super loud and annoying & my mom with hearing aids couldn’t hear anyone- so I asked to have the music turned down - please. It was turned off and I was told in a very passive aggressive way that the music was off. 😀 I think I could actually figure that out myself. Anyway, we ordered and the salads & appies arrived and were very good. When our dinners arrived, all were good except mine. I ordered a medium rare sirloin Oscar that was delivered- blue. Sent it back and by the time my guests were 1/2 way through eating, I received another order - exactly the same - blue! By this time I was getting annoyed! Not a chef, but I do know - if it feels like rubber to the touch - it’s rare. Sent it back again . By the time the next order came out the rest of my group were done eating - so I asked for it to be boxed. We were offered complimentary desserts for the inconvenience & they waived the bill for my $58 order - think I have that price correct? It didn’t matter at that point - my evening & experience were destroyed. No visit from the manager? I think for the price it was pathetic. When you are paying a fine dining price, in a mediocre atmosphere you expect excellent food - that’s why you are there. It’s not a diner. Tipped the waitress on the side as she was good. As for the chef’s I’d recommend more training or a meat...
Read moreThis used to be my favorite place to eat. I don't know what has changed, but it will no longer be our fav spot in Red Deer to go for girls' night. The food was awful. And the wait was ridiculous for there being 1 other table in the early evening.
The usual table bread didn't have flavor either. Did the butter if that's even possible. Ordered escargot, received mushrooms neptune, which I realized after taking a bite. I'm allergic to crab, so I sent it back after waiting 20 min for the waiter to appear. No appology, he said nothing. I just took it and walked away. Thank God I'm not major allergic and didn't need an epipen for his mistake. 20 more minutes, my escargot came, and it was OK, again bland. The steak was chewy and unseasoned. The veggies were overcooked. The only good thing was the baked potato. Plates were so hot that they couldn't be touched.
The prime rib was over 50% fat. No drink refills as the water disappeared once the food finally came. Not even water.
We waited for a very long time to even order drinks, then for them to come. Then the food took well over an hour to come after we ordered. If it had been amazing, it wouldn't have been so bad, but for mediocre food and service, I don't know what's going on at the Keg, but I won't be coming back anytime soon. And for God's sake, change the music it's so...
