We are fortunate with abundance of Chinese food available in Vancouver, BC. Ying cafe is on the list of restaurants nearby at the hotel we stay at Red Mountain, so we want to check it out. We walked past on the Christmas Day during lunch time. We mistakenly thought it was open as we saw light and people working inside. It was actually closed but they welcomed us inside anyway!
I guess the place is called a “cafe” perhaps because they do not have a huge menu like most Chinese restaurants, but there were enough options for two of us to choose. The server highly recommended their home made egg rolls and that did not disappoint! It was crispy outside and juicy inside! We also order wonton soup because it was cold having a walk outside, and red curry with chicken, both of them were not bad at all - quite good for a little town! Prices were very reasonable for a touristic spot like this.
The server was super friendly and the chef as well. The service was exceptional for a small Chinese place and she nicely placed our bowls, plates, knifes, forks and chopsticks for us. They were a married couple and they shared their stories with us. The chef even performed a few songs for us with his traditional Chinese instrument - Erhu! He also gave us recommendations to do during our stay in Rossland. We could not ask for a better...
Read moreWe were so happy and fortunate to stumble into Ying Cafe over a busy weekend in Rossland, BC. The usual suspects were quoting waits of 60-90 minutes for typical pub fare and Italian, so we asked around and Ying Cafe came up with several locals. Our group of 7 was seated immediately at the family able and then dazzled with the “Dinner for Six for $130” on the menu. We had four college-age guys with us, so we ordered an extra entree, which was fabulous though we could have survived without having it. Who knew that Ying’s would delivery the perfect post-ski recovery meal, and several of us enjoyed wine and beer (5 of 7), for under $200 Canadian? The owners are charming and the food was lovingly made with vibrant flavors. We even received a mini-concert from Ying himself at the end of the meal. If you find yourself in Rossland, BC or at Red Mountain Resort and you’ve got a big group, trust Ying Cafe to fill you up with tasty eats and show the world what BC mountain town hospitality is all about. Look forward to...
Read moreUnfortunately, terrible experience. Want to support a mom and pop shop like this but it took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get our food and atmosphere was just the sound of everyone waiting to get their food. One group left after their appetizer. Another asked to cancel the meal and left. Another went to Subway to grab a sandwich for their kids while waiting for their food. Families were so patient. Food not good - the buns, dumplings, and Szechuan chicken. All the reviews were so positive, so...
