Yesterday was one of those warm September afternoon's that you just like to get in your car and drive out to Lockport, because you can. We thought a FOOT LONG HOT DOG at SKINNER'S on River Rd. in Lockport would be appropriate to cap off the drive. We passed by the Half Moon, A & W, and Sonja's, to get to the the World Famous Hot Dog originator since 1927. We realized that Covid-19 Rules were in effect at most restaurants in the Province and certain precautions were in place. The place looked deserted as we pulled up and parked, except for a few scattered cars and a motorcycle, and two people standing in the lot. The restaurant door was locked and the windows were dark and vacant. We shuffled along the boardwalk to the North and found a small neon sign with OPEN among the signs and posters. At a small open sliding window, we heard voices from inside, a hand appeared at the window and took our order for two FOOT LONG'S "Loaded". Fourteen dollars! Which we paid. #75! And stood and waited. A pair of ladies came, and like us, tried the doors and eventually found the window with the hand and ordered their ice creams. About 10 minutes later, a hand appeared at another window to the right, placed two wrapped hot dogs on the window sill and yelled 7 5 . We picked up our hot dogs, grabbed a servette off of the wall hung dispenser and shuffled down the boardwalk to the sunny but windy Southend to an old table set out on the gravel. Unwrapping the dogs, we found, a very dry bun with a weiner sticking out, some relish, a vein of mustard and eight pieces of onion, and this was a LOADED WORLD FAMOUS FOOT LONG HOT DOG! The hide on the weiner was as tough a the sole on my leather shoes, and the bun almost crumbled to dust, while the condiments lay at the bottom of the split bun.....tastless! Just not your Seven dollar hot dog that you drove 19 miles to get on a sunny September afternoon. I should add, we enquired about washrooms and were told, go down to the corner, make a right and down to you come to a Petrol-can, that was the funny part. On a beautiful sunny afternoon in September, the MIGHTY SKINNER'S WORLD FAMOUS HOT DOG.... has struck out!

Nice drive to get away from it all to clear one’s mind. Why not stop at the famous hot dog place called Skinner’s in Lockport. Just 22 klm’s north of Winnipeg. Back in the day there was a water slide for a fun filled day. I don’t remember how many bath suit bottoms I replaced that one summer. It does not matter it was fun while it lasted. Now the water slides are just fond memories. Many people stop here year round to step back in time with the retro furniture, tables, chairs, memories posted on the walls, juke box, the food is still the same (tasty) with friendly service. You can sit inside & in the summer months please enjoy the outdoor patio. Make sure you leave enough room for ice cream. The remodelled washrooms are very clean ‘n added flowers for a nice touch. If you forgot fishing gear, please stop in their store. You will not be disappointed ‘n enjoy. Cheers Skinners 95th anniversary celebration 🎊 🌭 .95 cents. Fantastic deal service was excellent ‘n fast. Ate one 🌭 some fries the rest is for tomorrow. Worth the trip. 🌭🌭🌭🌭♥️ Happy birthday Skinners miss those water slides. Went through many swim suit bottoms from skidding. Soooooo much fun. Cheers Colleen

2024/07/03 Skinner’s in Lockport was great. We went to the river location by the locks. The place was spotless and the staff were very good. I had the BLT 🌭 with large fries. My better 1/2 had chili. I am a BIG hot dog 🌭 fan but the one at Skinner’s was one of the best todate. The dog has a nice crisp when you bite into it. The home fries were fresh out the frier. A nice thick fry that wasn’t overly cooked. The restaurant has been in the same location since 1929. The pictures on the walls are outstanding with some being quite old. Now desert. I don’t often have desert but ice cream and especially Chapmans ice cream is my downfall. I had a blue liquorice and super hero ice cream cone. Very, very good. My better half had Algonquin canoe ice cream cone. Also very good. The place wasn’t that busy and we were there about 5:15 PM. The washroom was clean and well kept. As for price we spent about $40 which included tip and the ice cream. Don’t forget to take the time to go for a walk along the river back which is directly across the road. Al in all a very good experience and well worth the short drive from the city. 👍🏼🌭🍦

Do not trust the lactose free ice cream! I brought my 4 year old daughter who is rather allergic to lactose, under the information that lactose free ice cream was served. I INSISTED to the lady that served me that it had to be lactose free, otherwise my daughter will suffer severe stomach pain. I was reassured that it was. Well, this evening, my daughter suffered from lactose related stomach pain. I called Skinners and requested a manager. I was responded with that I was speaking to one. I explained the issue, and recommended that they triple check the ice cream for authenticity of being lactose free. I received a rather uncaring, sorry, I'll see what I can do, goodbye. KEEP IN MIND, MY DAUGHTER IS CRYING IN THE BACKGROUND IN PAIN! I called immediately so that another parent doesn't have to deal with this. And all I receive is "sorry"? How about investigate it NOW, if there was a mistake, these things happen. But to treat the situation with no care at all, disgusts me. Never again. So, to finalize, if someone that you are taking for ice cream is searching for lactose free, do not attend Skinners. There are multiple other establishments that are authentic and that provide excellent...
