Colonel's City Pizza — Restaurant in Russell

Edit: the last two times I ordered here in May 2020, the pepperoni was literally rotten. I am now turned off from eating here given the quality control and will not be returning.

Original Review: I have ordered a few times from here now and I'll give my honest opinion to help offset the mixed reviews. The first time I wasn't overly impressed but the second time they redeemed themselves. Every other time I've ordered the pizza it has been pretty decent.

The one thing I notice is the more ingredients the pizza has the less likely that all the veggies are fully cooked and less likely to have perfectly melted cheese. The crust is average and will be soggy if they put it on top of the oven in the box, while they wait for you to pick it up. I find the faster you get the pizza from the moment it leaves the oven the more likely it'll be crisper and less soggy. This could also be a thin crust issue as well. Thin crust seems to be the going thing in the area with all the pizzerias and I don't quite understand why except for cost savings. This is probably also the reason why the pizza may seem greasy.

The sauce is pretty bang on except it can be overly salty from time to time.

As for the ingredients, they are extremely generous with the cheese and toppings and one of the main reasons I come back.

Overall, I have been and will continue ordering from here especially given the quality and price point VS the competition in the area, which is either a hit or miss (mainly miss the last few times) or a large chain pizzaria that chooses to be the worst one of the franchise or a restaurant that makes decent pizza but...

The first time I had this pizza, I loved it. We have since ordered several times. The only reason I'm not giving it a full 5 star is because one time we ordered on a rainy day and somehow between the restaurant and our house the pizza got so wet that it was not edible. I don't think it was the restaurant's fault, but more the delivery guy not being careful enough with it. There was also another time where our pizza took so long to get delivered. Again, not the restaurants fault. The delivery person clearly got lost and didn't bother calling to get help with directions to our house.

I really do believe that ratings should reflect not only product, but service as well. However, this time I am giving 4 stars rather than a lower score because inspite of having issues with the delivery service, the food is good (when it doesn't get rained on), and the staff has always been friendly. Had we not been having issues with the delivery, I would have given a full 5 star.

I'm not even done eating and I felt compelled to write a review. This is the first time we've ordered from Colonel's takeout and I must say that I'm very impressed. First, the online menu...perfect website and quite dynamic. You can pick and choose from whatever you want...super easy! I ordered a fair amount of food (2 X 20 wings & a large pizza) and I was told it would take 1 hour...it took 45 minutes! Amazing wings...seriously good! And the pizza was absolutely delicious (I usually make my own so I know). But I detected porchetta instead of the bacon on the Pizza? but nevertheless, it was amazing and it played the part because it was great! This turned out to be a great birthday snack. I also read some reviews before I ordered and it's obvious that the owner cares about his business by replying to them. Well done! I will definitely order...
