I moved to Montreal from Aurora Ontario 3 ½ years ago, and have been searching for real sushi here ever since. There are several exceptional sushi restaurants in Aurora, but so far I have been unable to find any sushi that's more than mediocre in Montreal. I have tried about 20, many with glowing reviews about "Best Sushi in Montreal", and all have been a terrible disappointment. All have been quite expensive compared with what I was used to.
I recently was gifted a dinner at a wonderful omakase restaurant in Montreal, which served spectacularly good sushi, but at a price: over 300$ per person including tax and tip. So not affordable for most including myself except on very special occasions.
I have also had sushi in Tokyo, and Montreal sushi for the most part doesn't even seem to be sushi at all in comparison.
Then someone recommended Mika. All I can say is that it's easily in the same class as the best I have had outside Montreal.
This Mika location really knows what sushi is. The rice, which is the foundation of any sushi was of good quality, cooked correctly and lightly seasoned. Without that, good sushi cannot be produced.
The other ingredients were fresh, the sauces were not heavy and were used sparingly. In addition, the maki were impressive because they contained a complex variety of ingredients with a variety of textures and subtly different flavours. The miso soup was a simple, fairly light broth with pieces of mushroom, nori and some other vegetables, and was one of the best I have ever enjoyed.
The tempura batter was a bit unusual, being more crispy and crunchy than I am used to. Probably contained some panko crumbs. However it was light, not greasy, and the shrimp and vegetables inside were cooked just to perfection.
And the price! Just 20$ for a lunch bento box which was generous and filling.
I am eager to go back for a dinner sometime soon just to enjoy real sushi and to see what more inventive fare might...
Read moreWOW!! Discovered this place in May 2025 after I picked up some hungry and tired travellers who wanted sushi. I called Mika Sushi from the airport at 7pm on a Thursday evening with a specific take-out order for 4 people (they close at 8pm), and when I arrived at 7:40pm everything was ready. All the food was amazing! Everybody raved about the sushi, including the vegetarian sushi (that one with the sweet potato is insanely delicious!). I've ordered another time since then and same consistently delicious experience. Cannot speak to atmosphere because we've had take-out but the place looks very nice and...
Read moreI have no complain in the quality of the food but the wait time is ridiculously long. I came here on new years eve and waited a long time but i assumed it was because of it being new years. I'm here now, they told me the food would be ready at 5:30pm, when I called to order at 4pm. I came 45 mins after just to be sure my food would be ready and it still is not. It is now 6:20pm and I am still waiting Almost an hour after they told me it would be ready. Their whole restaurant is filled with people waiting for their order. If you're looking for a quick sushi bite, this is definitely not the...
