Skeeter Barlow's Grill & Bar — Restaurant in Sarnia

The restaurant was busy as most are Friday nights. We ordered appetizers garlic bread and one sakad. For dinner a burger and fries, 10 wings, and the breasted chicken rib combo meal. The garlic bread was fine as was the salad but the dinner.... TERRIBLE. There was a table of about 10 guys drinking and eating wings and nachos and had about 3 servers hovering,while our girl was working about 8 tables and we barely seen her. We waited OVER AND HOUR between or apps and dinner. Just sitting there no refills no attention. Finally she realized we hadn't received our meal and then came back with a cold hockey puck of a burger and a rib combo that had over breasted chicken with an oil sheen ribs with NO flavour only 2 dried and broken breasted potato wedges and over boiled vegetables with no butter no flavour just blande moosh. I ate what I could of the chicken and tried to eat the ribs but even with more sauce, which tasted like baked beans tomato sauce, I couldn't stomach the boiled catastrophe. The wings were good so I was told. When I asked about the potatoes I was tokd it was all they had ready.....they had an hour and all I got was 2 massacred wedges? I had one bite of the veggies left the potatoes and the ribs and told the waitress I couldn't and wouldn't eat anymore of that. She then took it off the bill and said she just pay for it if the manager said anything. We protested her paying, she didn't cook that mess, and was insanely running from table to table. So she went to speak with manager and when she came back said he old it. Why didn't he come over and speak with us? He seen and knew how long we waited and yet never spoke to us not one apology from him...but he was chatting with regulars at the bar. I will NEVER go...

The bathroom smell should have been my first warning. When you walk in and the washroom reeks of urine, it usually sets the tone for what’s to come… and unfortunately, it did.

I don’t come to Sarnia often. My in-laws live here, and our grandparents insisted this was the place they wanted to go.

Service was poor from the start. We had a larger party, and I watched dirty appetizer plates sit in front of us long after we were done. When I finally asked for them to be cleared, only half were taken, the rest left sitting there.

Food took longer than expected, which I can overlook if it’s worth the wait… but it wasn’t. It was just as disappointing as the poor service.

Credit where it’s due: one waitress was clearly working hard (not efficiently might I add, but hard). The rest stood around, and the manager, who seemed to be doing little more than wandering, watched it all without stepping in, offering help, or even asking how our table was doing. Frankly, I’m not sure what the point of him being there was there.

The view of the water is nice. Everything else, food, service, management, and cleanliness was subpar at best. The bathroom should have told me everything I needed to know.

This review likely won’t change how this poor management runs the place, but if it helps one or two people avoid a poor experience, it’s worth sharing.

It was my first time going to this restaurant and I wanted to see if they have gluten free options as I have an allergy. My first impression of the restaurant was not very good when I called to ask about their options and they put me on hold, told me they were very busy, and instructed me to call back in an hour to speak to a manager. When I got to the restaurant and saw the menu that had gluten free and nut free options but it was very confusing how it was all worded. When I ordered my food from the waitress she wasn’t very approachable, she argued with me about the menu and assured me that ordering fries were safe because they didn’t have gluten which I later found out wasn’t in fact true. The food was mediocre and the service was not very good as we didn’t even get napkins with our appetizer order of loaded nachos. The service was not good and when I spoke to a manager after my meal, he was not professional and did not take any accountability for my negative experience. In fact, the bartender rudely interrupted the conversation and also was not helpful or well informed about the menu and told me their menu was out of date. I had a very negative experience at this restaurant and I won’t be returning. Especially since nobody offered any sort of compensation for my experience. The view was beautiful but the food was mediocre and the service was terrible. Would...
