Edit: After posting my review, the business responded by threatening legal action rather than reaching out to discuss how my concerns could be resolved. I wonder how many other negative reviews they’ve had removed with this tactic? This edit reflects my ongoing experience.
Chemong Lodge as a restaurant is great - the food is delicious and staff are always kind! That is why they get 2 stars instead of zero.
Chemong Lodge as a caterer is in my opinion, atrocious. They were disorganized on multiple occassions: our first phone call with them we mentioned wanting a buffet with pasta options, salad, entrees, etc. They sent us an invoice that was lower than the other caterer we were deciding between so we went with them! We found out after paying the deposit and scheduling our tasting that they invoiced us for... BBQ? This was never mentioned by them nor on the invoice, and we did mention pasta in our phone call... They also would not price match their original quote that we had agreed to :/ They only offered a minor discount for this error.
Then comes our tasting: some of the menu items we wanted to taste (the pretzels & cheese dip) were not ready. They asked us to comeback (keep in mind they are over an hour drive from us) but did give us a coupon for a free brunch as an apology. We go back, they tell us there is a miscommunication with the kitchen - they thought we were coming next week. More free brunch coupons and a promise they'd be ready next time! We go back a few weeks later, our pretzels were apparently sent off with another wedding's catering order. Restaurant manager is very kind and offers to have them delivered to us, asks us to email the catering email to arrange this.
The catering side and email is managed poorly and we were treated disrespectfully, they seemed to have an inability to communicate or organize things with the kitchen. They said that our "request" (again, we were told this by restaurant staff! It wasn't our idea) is unfeasible and if delivered by a third party instead they would potentially be compromised/"not warm and fresh", so we can either remove them from the menu or trust them to execute it correctly. While we did receive a $110 discount from our catering bill for this string of errors, we're very nervous about their ability to execute them and at this point it's only a few months before the wedding so we have to take it on the chin and trust them. Thankfully the mysterious pretzels did show up on our wedding night!
The final nail in the coffin is that on our wedding night, without any warning, they swapped our pasta's butter cream sauce for a tomato sauce... I feel as a caterer they are completely unprofessional all around. Great as a restaurant but as a caterer... I would avoid using their services...
Read moreWe took my husband to Chemong Lodge this past Sunday for Father's Day brunch.
It took about 10 minutes to be seated, even though there was nobody in front of us waiting, and we had a reservation! Once seated, it didn't get any better.......we had to ask our waiter 3 times for coffee. The table at the buffet where we were to self serve for juice and water etc, was always empty, and when it did get replenished, it was gone as fast as it was put on the table. The buffet itself was mostly empty of food, and we were standing in line waiting for the food to come out of the kitchen....we found it very greasy and over all unpleasant. There was only one person manning the containers at the buffet as well, so the line up was long and slow moving!. At one point I asked our waiter for some ice water, and when he returned with a glass of luke warm water, and I asked where the ice was, his response was "we're out of ice"........out of ice????? My daughter asked for some orange juice and he said "juice is available at the buffet"........so he had no idea that there wasn't, and hadn't been anything on the juice table since our arrival. People swarmed the juice table, the second someone put full jugs down. The dessert table wasn't much better......they had what looked like some nice desserts ( a nice big bowl of fruit salad, and some apple cobbler and trifle) but there were no bowls or anything for you to spoon some into! The waiter never came back to our table to ask how things were, and we sat for sometime before finally going to the cash register to ask for our bill.........$100 for 4 people..........what a let down! I used to work at Chemong Lodge growing up, and did so with pride........I'm very disappointed at this experience......so much so that I'm not sure I'll be back! it was a...

For many years I have on countless occasions driven by the road signs indicating the turn to Chemong Lodge a long established (1962) venerable institution in this area. While intrigued, have never visited. Another ‘must visit’ on my agenda was Dr. J’s BBQ & Brews, Peterborough, Ontario delayed by a global pandemic. The universe has aligned to provide a solution. Since available for patio & now indoor dining. AND a takeout menu available hot & ready OR vacuum sealed. While not yet ready for indoor/patio dining options the Lodge has a funky, comfortable vibe.
