I haven’t been to Shelburne to dine since before the Lockdowns and boy do I regret it. My tastebuds will hold this grudge against me for a long time. Brunch was amazing. I had to try many dishes! I ordered the special appetizer as suggested by my lovely server, Jenna, the cheese terrine made with Oka and Raclette and drizzled with a reduced Balsamic. Light, luxurious and delicious. You can also tell how much the chef cares about the quality of everything he sets in front of each guest by how fresh and crisp his side salad is. The arugula was the freshest I’ve ever had and the dressing was beautiful. I asked if Chef Freddy had foie gras today. He did! The potatoes were transformed into delicate layers for the foie gras galette the foie was seared and underneath and the dish was drizzled with a port wine reduction. I cannot believe that Chef can prepare this on the fly for a hungry foodie! The Croque Monsieur was lovely too and the perfect sized serving. Gorgeous Bechamél, quality shaved ham and that beautiful bread and Swiss cheese! Again, the arugula was fresh and perfect. Chef’s crepes made him famous when he attended the Orangeville Farmer’s Market. so I had to order one. I chose the Chocolate Monkey crepe. C’est Bon!!! At the end of my incredible lunch, Chef brought over what he will be preparing for his guests tonight and I’m tempted to cancel our reservation for tonight at another great establishment! He showed me the highly graded Wagyu steak. Let you know if we devour a couple of these tonight!

Really great French inspired food. Chef Freddy is a great chef. We visited for dinner, and were on a time crunch and made the serving staff aware of this. They were considerate of our time schedule and nothing felt rushed about the experience. Great service and staff. We had 3 dishes: 1. Shrimp Springroll - The pastry was thin and flaky, the seasoning was light and complimented the shrimp well. 2. Flatbread - The best puff pastry I have ever tasted. Simply put, if nothing else, do not miss out on this dish. The toppings were plentiful, and came together well. The light sauce used brought the infusion of flavours together nicely. 3. St Jacques (Scallops) - The scallops were cooked to perfection, accompanied by bacon, mushrooms, peas and a lovely sauce. Delicious. I wish we had more time to try more dishes. The restaurant is small, which seems to allow the chef to focus on quality - it shows. The walls are lined with artwork, which appears to be local artwork. It is great to see this showcased and available for purchase. Suggestion: Have a tasting menu. The food we tried was amazing, I would love to return and try so much more a tasting menu would be a wonderful way to showcase your clear talent.

Sooooo we’ve found our new favourite restaurant ❤️ @beyond_the_gate and Chef Fred is AMAZING! We got there early so we could linger and enjoy each course and my goodness is he gifted. All of the flavours are absolutely perfect and he sources his ingredients locally so when you go- you’re fully supporting Canadian and you’re going to love every morsel! 🍽️ Antipasto - Assorted Local Charcuterie (Cheese from Quebec) 🍽️ St Jacques - Scallops, Double Smoked Bacon, Peppers, Mushrooms and Garlic Butter Sauce* 🍽️ Shrimp Scampi - Bok Choy, Peppers, Tomatoes, Garlic Wine Buttery Sauce* 🍽️ Strawberry Crêpe with a hint of Herbes de Provence* *Warning - you’ll want to lick your plate with every dish - Chef Fred is an incredibly talented Saucier The restaurant is located in the beautiful @town_shelburne where you’ll also find @lebistrodupain new location, @museumofdufferin and a little further out is @k2milling and @sheldoncreekdairy so make a day of it and show these businesses your support❤️🇨🇦❤️

An Unforgettable French Dining Experience

Tucked away in a charming corner of town, this cozy French restaurant is an absolute gem. From the moment we walked in, the warm ambiance, soft lighting, and gentle hum of French music set the perfect tone for an intimate and delightful meal.

The experience started with the asiago artichoke dip—creamy, cheesy, and perfectly balanced with a hint of tang, served with crisp, golden flatbread that made every bite irresistible.

Next, a bowl of their scratch-made roasted red pepper and smoked cheddar soup, bursting with rich, layered flavors that made it clear every ingredient was carefully chosen and prepared with love.

For the main course, the chicken piccata was nothing short of perfection. Tender, juicy chicken bathed in a luscious lemon-caper sauce, served with spinach and potatoes that complemented every bite. The flavors were bold yet beautifully refined, proving the chef’s mastery of classic French techniques.

And then, the grand finale: crêpe Suzette. The delicate crêpe was drenched in a heavenly orange-infused sauce, flambéed tableside, adding both drama and elegance to the experience. The balance of sweetness and citrus was impeccable—each bite melting in our mouths and leaving us wishing for just one more.

From the impeccable service to the exquisite food, every detail of our visit was flawless. If you're looking for an intimate, authentic French dining experience with dishes made from scratch and served with heart, this place is a must-visit....

Incredible atmosphere, fantastic service and of course, exquisite food!

As you step into the restaurant, you are always greeted by a friendly server and a big hello by Chef Freddie.

The decor and rustic french atmosphere is cozy and makes you immediately feel you are in a posh restaurant in Toronto and not in Shelburne. Every table gives you a clear view of the chef working in the kitchen.

The menu offers various delicious starters followed by evening specials and top-quality main course dishes filled with fresh and local ingredients. The scallops I had recently were absolutely exquisite and were perfectly complimented with a beautiful Chardonnay the server had recommended.

Dessert..just out of this world. All of the crepes and dessert choices are TO DIE FOR (and yes, I have tried them all!) and you will be knocked away by the incredible fusion of flavours no matter which dessert item you select.

I have never left Beyond The Gate with anything but an incredible experience and feeling of immense warmth and happiness, all because of the love that is clearly put into every aspect of this restaurant.

Thank you to owner Chef Freddie for always making us feel like family, ensuring we are being served a world-class experience, and bringing your passion and talent...
