The Main St. Cafe is a true diamond in the rough! Located on the main Street of Shelburne, is an unpresumptuous location that boasts breakfast and lunch. I can't speak to the quality of the breakfast but I can say that their dinners are second to none.
When you first step inside, the atmosphere is quaint and understated. Your inclination might be to shrink away from the old wooden chairs or the mismatched tables. You could be forgiven for thinking you'd stumbled into just another dying, small-town greasy-spoon. Take a moment though; look closer. The paint is fresh and well chosen, the shelves are lined with local preserves for sale, and the walls speak of a comforting cottage rather than your typical mid-town breakfast spot.
The staff are friendly and helpful with ordering, eager to point out the daily specials. And quick with refills and anything you might need.
When it comes to the food, if there is a special, I highly recommend it. My table ordered both specials and were extremely happy with the quality and the quantity of the food. We ordered the roast beef, their cheeseburger, and the souvlaki (pictured).
The roast beef dinners were very generously portioned, served with perfectly cooked vegetables, mashed potatoes, and one of their famously large dinner rolls. The beef was extremely well cooked and tender.
The cheese burger was a hand made patty smothered in real cheddar cheese and topped to your preference. It is served with skillet-fried potatoes which makes for a pleasant change of pace from regular french fries.
The souvlaki was perfectly seasoned, served with rice, more of those perfect vegetables, and a fantastic Greek salad that was filled with fresh tomatoes and the welcomed twist of julienned peppers.
I can honestly say that this was one of the best meals I've had so far this year, a welcomed surprise and one that I would recommend strongly to anyone passing...
Read moreThe food was poor. I had quiche and a side ceasar salad. The quiche crust was over cooked and didn't taste good. The lettuce in the salad was wilted and pretty soggy. The food was the worst part of my experience.
The kitchen was quite open and it didn't look very clean. The dish cloths were dirty looking and they used old mix and match mugs for their customers. You know the standard white mugs that you see a company logo on?
Also the music was too loud and didn't match the setting. The setting was like country kitchen and the music was like pop and hip hop. It just felt like an odd fit and I could see I wasn't the only one who felt that way.
The service was not great. The young girl who served our table seemed uncomfortable. Maybe she had nerves and was new. That's fine. Everyone has to start and I'm all in support of being kind and aware of related challenges. She seemed bored or sad, and definitely not interested in what she was doing. There were a couple of nice or ok women working when we visited. But the general mood was poor, I could feel how miserable the staff was. It didn't make for a good experience. It was sad, actually.
I was quite uncomfortable there. I would not recommend this place and don't want to...
Read moreEverything here was awesome. The lady was so sweet who was serving us food and the ambience was absolutely refreshing. Food was very delicious. I am looking forward to visit there again. I had a breakfast there and it was just fabulous. I use to think about visiting there since long and now I think I cannot let go of it. The dish was absolutely scrumptious, bursting with flavor and utterly delicious. The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the air, enticing everyone in the room. With eager anticipation, I took a bite of the warm omlette and my taste buds were instantly awakened. Each mouthful was a symphony of flavors, from the nutty undertones to the hint of sweetness. It was truly a culinary masterpiece, a testament to the skill of the chef. As I savored every morsel, I couldn’t help but marvel at how something so simple could be so utterly delicious. Thank you for this amazing experience 😍👍🏻 They also serve...
