Bourdeus regular poutine review
A bit about myself I grew up just outside of Cornwall and have been living in the Yukon for 5 years. Western Canada does not have the quality of poutine we have / Quebec so I had to have one while on my family visit.
Now to the official poutine review
Fries Perfect size and taste . Not too stringy or too thick. Fries were perfectly cooked. Not too crispy but not soggy. Perfect for withstanding the weight of all the curds and gravy. The Fries are the bed rock of the poutine.
Cheese CURDS The worst thing about western Canada is they have the nerve to shred a block of cheddar cheese on some fries , add some gravy and call it a poutine. What a disgrace. That is NOT a poutine that is Disco Fries !! !! Anyways, this was an actual poutine. The curds were perfect temperature for melting properly on the Fries. Some people will add cold curds on the Fries with gravy and you end up with clumpy cold curds on the Fries. Bourdeaus knows what's up. They also cut the curds slightly which helped with the melting. Mad respect for the multi layering of curds throughout this poutine ! Definitely a game changer. There were enough cheese curds to cover every single fry with a hint of curd. Perfect.
Gravy The gravy added unique peppery perfection to the poutine. The gravy had perfect consistency and temperature. The quantity was just right. The Fries were not drowning but there was enough gravy to melt all the curds properly while covering every single fry. Probably the best thing about this poutine.
The overall poutine Every single fork full of this delicious poutine had Fries with gravy and cheese. This is what a real poutune should be. BC / Yukon have never made a poutine in history this good. If you want a real poutine experience this is where you go. Also the price is right ! Keep up...
Read moreTucked away in Lancaster, Ontario, Bordeaux stands as a delightful surprise reminiscent of stepping into a 50s American diner. A chance encounter during a pit stop on my journey home from Montreal led me to this unassuming yet charming spot.
As I wandered in without expectations, I found myself transported back in time, greeted by an ambiance that echoed the nostalgia of a bygone era. Amidst this retro setting, the perch rolls took center stage, showcasing bread so exquisitely buttery and flavorful. The succulent perch, harmoniously paired with a sauce that could rival any culinary masterpiece, delivered an explosion of taste that lingered long after the last bite.
And those fries! Crispy, golden, and an ideal complement to the main act, they completed the ensemble of flavors that Bordeaux has mastered.
However, a word to the wise for eager diners: securing a spot might require a dash of patience. This hidden gem's popularity sometimes means waiting for a table, but trust me, the savory experience that awaits is well worth the wait.
Bordeaux isn't just a dining spot; it's a nostalgic journey wrapped in culinary excellence. From the enchanting 50s American diner atmosphere to the gastronomic marvels that grace the menu, it's a rendezvous with flavors and nostalgia that I can't help but recommend...
Read moreWe really enjoyed Bourdeau.
Passing through Lancaster on our way back to the states we were looking for something other than a Tim's or a Wendy's. Loretta's Chip Wagon was the first spot to come up, but after reading some more recent reviews we decided to keep looking. The perch sandwich sounded interesting, luckily Bourdeau was so close.
We ordered a smoked meat, two perch sandwiches and a bowl of clam chowder.
Smoked meat was good. Relatively typical and the bread did not hold up too well. Would not be my go to here.
Clam chowder was excellent. Full of flavor without being overly salty. Nice and thick with heavy amounts of vegetables and clams. Very clam forward if you will.
The perch sandos lived up to the hype. Perch fillet wedged into a buttered and grilled thick slice of bread. I was expecting a hot dog bun, so this was a nice surprise. We added the diced and grilled onions and would recommend it that way. There was a white sauce on top that my wife enjoyed more than I really noticed it. Towards the end of mine I added a little ketchup to recreate my Filet-O-Fish days, as trashy as that is. I think pickle would be a nice addition the next time I have one.
All in all, glad we stumbled on this place. Will be a must stop every time we pass...
