Bit of a mixed review. Thoroughly enjoyed the latkas, which we ordered as a shareable appetizer. Our mains, however, left a lot to be desired. Cocktails were absolutely amazing and the strudel left a lasting impression. Service moved at a snails pace but servers were pleasant and the ambience eased us into what turned out to be a very pleasant afternoon. So let's dig into it!

The latkas are simply amazing - each bite was fresh and flavorful. Nicely balanced between bitters, fresh greens, the potato, and salmon. This would make a great main but we ordered it as an appetizer for three - which also worked but, given two of our mains were disastrous, I'd have made the trade.

I ordered the schnitzel sandwich which was heavily salted and a bit dry/flavorless. The kennel chips which accompanied the sandwich, however, were homemade and quite tasty. My daughter ordered the Swedish meatballs which came drowning in a cream sauce - I had a taste and it reminded me of a bechamel sauce. This plate wasn't balanced at all - a total miss and something to avoid on the menu. Suffice to say the entire meal was left uneaten and neither server inquired why or offered a remedy. Lastly, my partner ordered the pork schnitzel which he enjoyed although, due to the portion size, it's a plate two women could easily share. We ordered some tasty cocktails to wash everything down - highly recommend.

To finish off, the three of us shared an apple strudel and a sache torte. The sache torte was quite thick but the strudel was absolutely amazing (portion size here is also sharable).

The restaurant is beautifully decorated but quite small, making seating cozy at peak hours. Service was painfully slow and inattentive which annoyed us, at first, but then we made an afternoon of it (3hrs start to finish). I will say both the young man and the older woman who served us had a pleasant disposition and we thought the jug of water at each table was a nice touch.

Again, a mixed review because we enjoyed ourselves and some of the menu items were spot on but, others totally missed the mark. Final bill was just a...

Everything about our time at KaiserHaus was thoroughly enjoyable. The decor is unique to other restaurants and such a charming esthetic. We can't wait to go back and sit on the patio. The service was above and beyond! It is a small restaurant, and when full, has a lively atmosphere, but every customer was tended to in such a friendly manner, you truly feel valued with service like this. Most importantly, the food! I ordered the cauliflower soup, which was so flavourful yet light and refreshing. My boyfriend had the latkes, and they were crispy and herbal. For our mains, we went intentionally on a friday so that I could have the fish and chips, and it was one of the best meals I have eaten in a long time. The frites were seasoned perfectly. The fish was substantial, perfectly crispy and not overly battered, served with tartar sauce that I would buy if they bottled! Even the brusselsprout and apple slaw, which I wasn't sure that I would enjoy, was perfectly balanced and surprisingly delightful! I ate every single bite on my plate. My boyfriend had the burger and wasn't sure how it would be, as the restaurant is geared towards Schnitzel, but it was perfectly done! Large, flavourful, and outdoing burgers from restaurants we have tried that specialize in burgers! I was so full that I ordered dessert to go, and the strudel filled our home with the most amazing smell as I warmed it in the oven. It was packed with apple, buttery, and decadent.

We can not wait...

It was one of those rare, glorious autumn days where the air was crisp but not cold enough to steal your soul. The kind of day that makes you think, "Yes, the world hasn’t completely gone to hell just yet." I was walking along the park in Port Dalhousie, arm-in-arm with an attractive lady who could have stepped out of some wild dream, when we stumbled upon the KaiserHaus. A charming little place with just the right blend of old-world allure and modern civility.

We wandered in, drawn by its promise like moths to a flame, and were greeted by a warm, welcoming staff that had the air of people who actually gave a damn. The interior? Immaculate. You could tell they put thought into every corner. And that patio—ah, yes—quaint and perfect for people-watching. The kind of spot where you can lose hours just watching the world spin by. They even had blankets, just in case the autumn chill tried to creep in, but on this perfect day, they weren't needed.

Now, let’s talk food. My date opted for the goulash, a bowl so rich and hearty it could’ve revived a dead man. I, on the other hand, went for the schnitzel sandwich and kettle chips. Pure genius on a plate. Both dishes hit the mark, perfectly complementing the fall atmosphere like a well-played hand of cards.

And as for how the day ended? Well, let’s just say that the food wasn’t the only thing that exceeded expectations. KaiserHaus delivered, in more...

On a Thursday night, the service was very slow. From the time we sat down at our table till the food was served took one hour. There was no table bread to nibble on during the wait, by the time the food arrived at our table, we were quite hungry. As for the quality of the food, I was looking for a traditional schnitzel, so I was disappointed by what I got. Instead of one big piece of meat, I got one small piece and a medium piece. The meat was also quite dry. Instead of coated with flour, egg wash and bread crumbs, it was coated with a wet batter. Instead of fried in butter, it was deep fried in vegetable oil. Instead of seasoning the meat with salt and pepper before coating, some big grains of sea salt was sprinkled on the outside of the batter, making the seasoning uneven. Some bites were bland, and some bites were too salty. On the other hand, one can say the KaiserHaus schnitzel is healthier than the traditional schnitzel. The red cabbage was not rotkraut but pickled cabbage. The spaetzle was homemade, but instead of scrapping the batter on a board into boiling water to form long strand of noodles, the batter was pushed through a sift and formed tiny ball shape noodles. Instead of ordering dessert at the end of the meal, we decided we had spent enough time in the restaurant and got ice cream from the store next door instead.
